Chapter Forty-Seven

"Master, Hai Shi has arrived."

Shuwen said to Chao Yan, whose complexion visibly improved. Chao Yan's hesitation let her know that Hai Shi was probably not alone.

Unconcerned, Chao Yan asked, "What is it?"

Shuwen truthfully replied, "She brought Yi Shu as well.

"She thinks this place is open to everyone?" Chao Yan said indifferently.

"Hai Shi said she was looking for Lord Chao Huang..."

Seeing Chao Yan's impassive face, Shuwen understood that Chao Yan was probably angry with Hai Shi, even if she did not say so openly. So she suggested, "They were stopped outside. If you don't want to see them, they won't bother you.

Chao Yan nodded, "Let Chao Huang go to see them, but don't let them enter the mansion."

"Understood, Master," Shuwen promised to carry out Chao Yan's orders. Regardless of Chao Yan's intentions, Shuwen's only priority was to carry out her orders, and that was what Chao Yan admired about her.

When Shuwen told Hai Shi about Chao Yan's decision, her face showed a hint of distress. "Madam doesn't want to see me?"

Shuwen frowned, "Miss Hai Shi, please watch your words. My master is not married yet. Besides, if the master refuses to see you, please don't insist."

"Is Madam reluctant to see me because I brought Yi Shu back?"

Ignoring Shuwen's words, Hai Shi continued stubbornly, insisting on using that name.

Shuwen sneered, "I once believed you to be a decent person, but over time, I've seen your true colors. Not only did you abandon the seriously ill master for personal reasons, you should know that she wouldn't be so frail if she had your medicine. Your personal interest in Yi Shu is all the more surprising; don't you know that the master detests Yi Shu? Your stubborn insistence on addressing her as 'Madam' indicates that you see the master as your so-called 'Madam', and you've never really cared for the master himself, have you? Hai Shi, from now on we are strangers, and Master is already disappointed in you.

Disappointed in Hai Shi, Chao Yan never gave her another chance to approach her. Regardless of the situation, Chao Yan would not allow Hai Shi to stay any longer.

After hearing Shuwen's words, Hai Shi's eyes dimmed, and she wanted to argue, but she found that every word Shuwen spoke was the truth, and she was unable to refute it.

And standing next to them, Yi Shu silently embraced Hai Shi, looking at her lovingly and comforting her without saying a word.

Shuwen pretended not to notice and refused to acknowledge Yi Shu's presence.

Hai Shi probably knew that Chao Yan's dislike for Yi Shu had reached the point where she wanted to get rid of her, but she might not know the reason behind Chao Yan's strong dislike for Yi Shu.

Yi Shu was a charming person, known for her extraordinary talent and beauty, so it was hard for most people to resist her charms.

Hong Niang was a very intelligent and persistent person. After falling in love with Yi Shu, she seemed to change completely -- no longer her cheerful self, she became absent-minded and even shed tears. She abandoned her dignity and adopted a delicate and tender demeanor in order to win Yi Shu's affection.

If Hong Niang had just let her emotions get the better of her, it would have been her own fault. However, the situation was not as simple as it seemed.

Perhaps it was Hong Niang's androgynous beauty that made Yi Shu feel attracted to her. They became friends, and Yi Shu often teased her. In time, Hong Niang became entangled in this hopeless love affair. She devoted herself wholeheartedly while Yi Shu toyed with her affections. Furthermore, Yi Shu had made it clear to Hong Niang that she only liked men and would never like women.
