~Hazel~

A flush of adrenaline tingling through my body made my thoughts fuzzy, like a haze had descended upon me. But one thing was clear: I had to get out of there. I turned to flee, my heart racing with a mix of shock, anger, and hurt. The scene before me was seared into my mind, refusing to be erased.

Why was I even hurt? It wasn't like he ever mentioned us being exclusive. He was only nice and protective of me, making me feel like we had something more.

For all I knew, I might have been the one whom he cheated on his girlfriend with, not the other way around. Why did I have to always be the second woman?

As I rushed down the hallway, my senses were heightened, and I detected a familiar scent—Asher's cologne.

"Hazel, wait!"

If only it were Zane calling out to me and begging me that he wasn't in his right state of mind.

The thoughts of him sent my emotions boiling over, and I spun around, ready to unleash my pent-up anger.

"Asher, leave me the fuck alone...!" I began.

But he didn't respond. Instead, he grasped my arm and dragged me into another room, his grip firm but silent. I struggled to free myself, but he held fast, his eyes fixed on mine with a cold expression.

"Let me go!" I demanded, my voice rising as he locked the door.

"You can't keep me captive here; I'll scream!"

"Go ahead then; you are only going to have a headache because this room is soundproof." He mocked me with his arms folded.

I scowled at him, wondering why he was here with me on his coronation day. "Shouldn't you be out there?"

"Doing what?"

"Receiving your crown and declaring the good will that you'll bring to the pack." I replied, ignoring the burning pain in my heart.

Asher didn't even give me enough time to grieve before bundling me into this confinement.

"I don't care about that sick crown."

"Then what do you care about?"

The question hung heavy in the air, and his gaze shifted from me for a minute as he hesitated to respond until I asked again.

"Tell me, Asher!"

"Everyone has been looking for you, and I actually thought that..." He didn't let me finish as he completed my statement like some mind reader.

"I was with the one hooking up with that chic."

"Yes..." My voice trailed off as the image replayed in my head.

I could never see Zane the same way, but I still felt guilty, owing to the fact that I had also secretly hooked up with his brothers.

"Nah, I'm nothing like my younger brother." He paused and then inched closer to me.

My eyes pierced into his as he lifted me off the ground and took me over to the bed.

Just when I thought he had some sort of sympathy for me, his next words landed with a thud on my heart: "I would have had two girls on that bed."

"You just keep reminding me of how much of a disgusting person you are!" I spat out. "You're just like your brother, selfish as always. You're supposed to be the future alpha, but you're nothing but an arrogant jerk who deserves to be taught a lesson!"

"And who is going to teach me? You?" He scoffed.

"Yes! When you abandoned me at the hotel, guess who showed up? Tyler!"

"Yeah, because he wanted to fuck you." He sneered.

I gnashed my teeth, raising my hand to slap him, but he caught it with a fierce anger that left me shrinking.

"In a couple of minutes, I'll be your alpha, so I wouldn't get on my nerves if I were you," he snarled, his eyes glinting with annoyance. "What are you so mad for? I told you the truth: just because a guy treats you nicely for the first three weeks doesn't mean he likes you."

"If you hadn't caught him, he would have kept leading you on, but I have been real with you from the start."

And I didn't care! It didn't change the fact that he was far worse than his brother!

"Even if Zane was to commit murder, I would still choose him over you," I snapped. "You are just mad because you saw how affected I was by it."

His eyes flashed with anger before he started laughing. "Mad over you? Be naive; for all I care, I have nothing to lose."

"You are just going to keep being used, and as far as you aren't my mate, it doesn't concern me."

"Good, so leave me alone!" I attempted kicking him off, but he also clipped my legs.

Then he removed my shoes without saying a word before finally saying, "You should get some sleep."

"I'll tell Tyler to get you after the party."

Just when he was about to turn away to leave, I pulled him back and pinned him to the bed before straddling him.

I wasn't sure of the crazy demon that had possessed me, but I was thirsty for revenge.

I just couldn't be lonely and miserable while Zane was having the best time of his life, so I started loosening the buttons on Asher's sleeves when he stopped me.

"If you want to have revenge on Zane, I'm the wrong person for the job. Get Tyler to do it instead." He flipped me off and then stood up to leave, but I caught his sleeve again.

"Two wrongs can't make a right, yes, but you can't leave me here." It was the alcohol talking.

I would never beg Asher for something like this.

"You should stay away from alcohol." He warned me before helping me up to my feet and pulling my zip down.

As my dress fell to the ground, a cold breeze brushed my skin, and I felt exposed under his eyes. My heart started running a mile a second as he carried me into the bathroom for a cold shower to clear my head.
