For the umpteenth time, the phone screen lit up with a notification with Zane's name on it.
"Will you be coming back today or tomorrow? I miss you so much and I hope when you get back, we'll be able to work things out between us."
"I don't want you to make a mistake by getting down with my brother as payback. I'm willing to give you whatever you want as long as you can forgive me." The message read.
I sighed, having no better words to reply to him.
Lying to him wasn't an option because the feelings were gone completely and I want to be with Asher now. There was no need to communicate with him because once we got back, Asher would announce our engagement properly then Zane would be forced to accept it.
Just then my phone binged again and I didn't want to check, assuming that it was him again but a tiny part of me told me to do so.
"Are you ready for your surprise?"
I blinked, sitting up straighter, my heart in my throat. What surprise? Asher had barely spoken to me all day except for those intense glances across the conference room. He was busy, as always, dealing with the other alphas. At least, that's what I thought.
I typed back quickly, "What surprise?"
No response. I frowned, biting my lip as I tossed the covers aside. Curiosity pinched me, and before I knew it, I was slipping out of my room and into the night air.
It was a good thing I had taken my time to dress elegantly during and after the conference.
The glow of lights from the field outside caught my attention. My steps faltered when I saw it—a helicopter. I stopped dead in my tracks, my heart pounding as the rotors whirred in the blissful night.
"Asher?" I called out, looking around in disbelief.
He appeared from the dark, that signature confident smirk in place, his hands in his pockets. "Come on, little mate. I didn't think you'd be shy."
I blinked, still in shock. "I... I thought you'd be busy with the other alphas."
He shrugged like it was nothing. "It's our last night here, would you rather I work or have fun with you?"
The sultry sound of his words made my heart race faster, and before I could stop myself, a squeal escaped my lips as he guided me toward the helicopter. He helped me inside, our eyes locked with our hearts racing in sync.
"It's cute to see you this romantic you know," I muttered, trying to steady my voice as I buckled in.
"Get used to it." He winked.
"Where are we going?" I asked, glancing at him as the helicopter lifted off the ground, my stomach fluttering from both the high land and his presence.
"You'll see," was all he said, his lips curving into that half-smile that made it impossible to look away.
I tried to focus on the view as we soared through the dark sky, the city lights twinkling far below us. But every time I glanced at him, it was hard to pull my gaze away from his perfect side profile.
This was my mate? Unbelievable!
As we descended, my eyes widened in awe. Below us, a luxurious yacht sat on the beautiful water, its LED lights penetrating in the darkness. My breath caught.
The helicopter landed smoothly, and Asher was out first, extending a hand to help me down. My pulse raced as I stepped onto the yacht, the gentle sway beneath my feet adding to the dizziness in my head.
