Season 3 Episode 22
"The Departed"

"Could you promise me one thing, mia cara?"

"Of course,"

"Always and forever?"

"Always and forever, Nik."

Those were the last words Eloisa Accardo and Niklaus Mikaelson exchanged before she stepped foot into her coronation hall.

That was the last time she heard his voice and felt his beating heart within her own, allowed his warmth to comfort her and calm the fire brewing within her nervous system.

It was in that very moment that Eloisa forgave him everything, that she forgot every word that slipped his mouth, and only yearned to be within his arms. To never be apart from him for too long again.

An ocean between them now felt small compared to the decaying dread that filled the space his presence once occupied within her heart. It was empty. No matter how much she pulled on their string, there was no tug in return, no feeling, no spark, nothing. Darkness was all she had left to hold on to, the only thread keeping her shattered heart together.

There was a reason the hybrid and his Queen were made soulmates.

They made each other what they were destined to always become, they fulfilled the parts of the other that nothing else could, bringing out the sides of themselves they never thought existed.

For Niklaus, Eloisa always brought out the good in him. The sweet and kind, funny and always bright man who he thought he had killed centuries ago. She brought him comfort, love and joy, peace and prosperity. Eloisa made him feel powerful, loved and most importantly, she made him feel seen.

There were times when he couldn't form coherent sentences, when none of his siblings could understand him and they didn't try to, simply leaving him to the devices of his mind. Even though they knew they were up to no good.

Eloisa on the other hand didn't need him to speak. She sat by him in silence for hours on end, until he would make the first step. She knew what he needed before he even realized it was a requirement, she knew his soul.
