Season 4 Episode 12
It had been days since Niklaus Mikaelson had found out he was going to be a father.
It had been days since Eloisa Mikaelson had last seen him.
The moment the hybrid had heard the second heartbeat present, was the moment his world seized spining, and every memory, every flaw, every word his father had spewed to him over the centuries came rushing back, entrapping him within the comfort of his own mind.A child.
His own blood.
He was to be a father.
But what if he became his own?
What if he truly was nothing more than a beast, an abomination, his father's reincarnation?
There were few things the great Niklaus Mikaelson feared on this Earth. But two of them were most prominent.
His own mind, and the love he held for the woman whose tear filled eyes haunted him every time he lay his head to sleep, the way his name fell out of her mouth like a helpless prayer, and how she clutched onto her stomach, dropping to her knees beside the bench he had left her on.
Where he had turned his back on her without a single word, a single emotion. There was nothing within him, nothing around him, except the hollow noise that spread through his ears whilst he mindlessly tried to navigate his way out of the Lockwood mansion.
Niklaus was a coward, that much he was certain of.
Having left his wife after she barely confessed, knowing that she was holding back because she feared his reaction. And how he had proven her right to do so. And how much she regretted her very existance in that moment. All because of him.
Him who remained deaf to her soft pleas, him who didn't once turn back even when Caroline rushed past him and towards her fallen sister, him who couldn't push past the barriers of his own mind and accept that this was his chance of finding happiness. That this was his redemption, what Elijah had spent a thousand years fighting for.
He felt it slip past his fingers with each step he took towards the parking lot of the Lockwood mansion. He felt his anger rise when he entered the vehicle, leaving the mansion in the view of his rear mirror and a completely baffled and raging Caroline Forbes standing in the empty parking lot, plotting all of the ways she could kill him.
