"Well, it...seems like if Sammy passed out from your angelic aura, Susie." I smirked deviously. And somehow, Susie smirked back at me. It's kinda funny, to be honest. I guess she's used to seeing Sammy overworked and collapsing. But then there's also this pang of sympathy, of course. How did it end for them? Seems like Arlene's soul messed up my memory real bad. Of course read Dreams Come To Life before, but that was a few years after this time. I knew Susie got replaced by Allison. Anyways, I am going to fix that...some point.
"Oh, it's not the first time, Arlene. You know this as much as I do." Susie remarked in a lighthearted manner, "It's not even the worst thing that happened to him. But he has such a terrible immune system." She calmly spoke as she tucked Sammy back into the sheets. I guess there's no point in making the bed anymore.
Noon is approaching, and I've just realized that.
"Susie, so, I hope you're not busy or anything today. I can order some lunch from the local restaurant, you know." I suggested, picking up the old-fashioned telephone. I tried my best to conceal the unfamiliar sensation as I was dialling it.
"Of course I'm not busy today! If you don't have extra work, I believe it is perfectly reasonable to relax," Susie acknowledged, "And yes, I would love to stay for lunch. And...make sure to order some brownies for dessert!" Her eyes gave an exciting gleam. "Of course!" I replied. Brownies certainly sound heavenly. But I have almost no idea in what Arlene likes.
"What do you recommend then?" I had to ask her. The only food I know from the 1930s is Bacon Soup, and I'm not even sure if this exists in a real 1930s world. And I'm pretty sure all employees from Joey Drew all had it before, so many times, to the point they become sick of having it.
"Well, you always liked those Bacon Roll-Ups, right? I'm sure they have some here. And I'll order some other food. Trust me, I know what Sammy likes, apart from chocolate cake." Susie gently took the phone from my hand, and chuckled slightly. "You always spend too much time deciding, my dear." She dialled again and ordered things that sounded incredibly delicious. Stuff like "Scalloped Potatoes with Mushrooms", "Spinach Souffle". I'm not offended by her remark about me taking to much time to decide, since I am quite unfamiliar with what this time period has to offer. But Arlene likes Bacon Roll-Ups, so I suppose I might enjoy them too.
Susie walked into Sammy's room. I'm pretty sure she went to check his temperature or something, but I'm also pretty sure it would be overwhelming for Sammy to see his girlfriend and his sister both glowering over his unconscious form, so I feel wise enough to not go in there. Sometimes, shipping needs distance, you know? Thank god I have good hearing though.
Moments later, Sammy walked out of the room in a rather disoriented manner, still a bit groggy from passing out. But luckily, nothing fell or broke. Susie understood him quite well. Sammy was never the type to have trouble navigating, even in such a disoriented state. Judging that slight fever flush in his cheeks, I'd say he still needs some time for recovery. Well, at least it's the weekend.
The doorbell rang, so I got up and went to the door. Seems like the food is here.
Sammy approached the table rather eagerly, and smiled upon how considerate Susie was, ordering him a nice chicken broth with parsley. The scent of Bacon Roll-Ups grab my attention the most though. It's hard to resist the smell of bacon, not to mention the smell of bread, filling the rolls. I can tell why Arlene likes them, because I do as well.
"Thanks, Susie..." Sammy mumbled, "I'll...leave the rolls for you two then. Can't stomach them today." He gingerly sat at the table next to Susie. How sweet.
And we all sat down to eat. I might want to learn the recipe and do a cooking vlog some point, once I make it back to reality. The scalloped potatoes and mushrooms are perfectly creamy and savoury, and the bacon roll-ups are crispy and soft at the same time. What a fragrance of the old times. Then, we shared the sweet, soft, matcha brownies.
