Theo hurried me towards the entrance hall for the tour his sister told us about. We walked into a hallway filled with items you'd think would be in a museum not a college.
"Why isn't your sister here with us" I whispered to Theo, he just shrugged and pulled me over to the petite woman that had started waving to us.
"Welcome Mr Romano and Mr Morelli" she smiled sweetly but it didn't quite meet her eyes. "My name is Caroline and I'll be your liaison here at Never-Wood manor." The woman prattled along about our new schedule and which classes were optional and which ones were compulsory. It felt like she had been talking for hours when as tall man came over and interrupted her.
"if you would please follow me" he turned to me and Theo and started to walk towards the other end of the hallway. We followed the tall man around the manor grounds with him explaining the history and what each room would host.
"Well, we will be spending a lot of time in there" Theo chuckled as we came out of the business hall. I rolled my eyes at him; he was only put in that class because I was, we both knew he wouldn't be paying attention at all. We were shown a few more of the compulsory classes that were on our schedule and then the tall man stopped and addressed us again.
"I would be showing you to your rooms next but as per the request of the founder you are wanted for a meeting in the library" I looked to Theo, who was just staring at a painting on the wall.
"Of course" I nodded at the tall man, it was strange that he never introduced himself but as Theo seemed to be at ease I decided not to question it.
"If you'd carry on following me this way" he spoke as he carried on walking. We all walked in silence for a while until we came to a set of ornate large doors. The woman who introduced herself and Caroline and the man exchanged looks and then pushed open the large doors. They opened to a massive library; it reminded me of the one we had at my grandmothers. This library honestly felt like home. We were followed in by a group of guards and led to a room on the far side.
"Ah Mr Romano," and older man was sat behind a desk, but had stood up as we entered "I hope the tour was to your liking" like all the other staff here the smile on his face didn't seem to meet his eyes.
"Yes it was, this place is quite beautiful" I smiled at him As I took a seat on the near side of the desk. I looked back to Theo who was stood just behind my right shoulder. He had gone ridged and was stood almost to attention. The soft side of my best friend had gone, he was in work mode. To most people the guy who is responsible for your life being ready would be a comfort but to me I knew it meant he didn't trust this situation which had me unsettled."Mr Morelli, please take a seat" the older man gestured to the open chair next to me, but Theo just bowed his head slightly and stood fast at my right shoulder. "As you wish" he sat back down in his overly large chair.
"So you wanted to see me?" I leant forward in my seat slightly.
"Yes, as an old friend of your fathers I thought it should be my job to welcome you to never-wood manor" I snorted softly at his words "Oh sorry did I say something amusing?" the man raised his eyebrow at me.
"I meant no disrespect, only my father doesn't have friends" I could see Theo scanning the room in my peripherals, I guess I did find comfort in the fact I wasn't the only one not trusting this interaction.
"Well no offense taken Mr Romano, I understand in the way you've been brought up friends are a luxury you can't afford" The man pushed a file towards me and tapped it with one finger. "This is your new room, it allows for your security detail to be with you at all times, he looked over at Theo and chuckled slightly.
"Speaking of my security detail," I slid the file off the desk and handed it to Theo "Why is Miss Morelli not accompanying me as well" it has been bugging me that Saff had been separated from us all morning.
"Miss Morelli has been separated due to her Fathers request and that's all I'm able to say" He turned to the staff members that had brought us in and nodded.
"If you'd follow me now" Caroline spoke up. I guess I asked a question they weren't happy with.
"Yes of Course" I knew when to give the appearance of giving in.
