I watched my brother disappear into a room at the far side of the library. As I turned to Dawn a large noise took my attention away, I turned my head so fast I almost broke my neck but all I saw was a small nerdy looking boy.

"I'm so sorry," he dropped to his knees and started to pick up the books he had just sent careening to the floor.
"Do I have this effect on everyone" I laughed trying to hide the fact my senses were screaming at me that something wasn't right. Dawn was still stood by the bookcase but her spine had gone ridged, so at least I wasn't the only one who felt this interaction seemed off. The boy collected himself and got back to his feet and stepped forward towards Dawn. I shot to my feet and put myself between them.
"I'm Saffron" I held my hand out to him.
"oh you're the Morelli girl" he took my hand which sent spikey chills up my arm. "You're usually on the protection detail for Romano with your twin right?" he fidgeted with his glasses trying to push them higher on his nose.
"and you don't need glasses" I spoke plainly, the boy almost chocked on his breath.
"What do you mean?" he seemed almost offended,
"Well first off they don't have a prescription and second off you can tell you aren't comfortable wearing them." I moved to block Dawn further "So you put them on to seem like less of a threat but that won't work on me"
"I don't know what you mean" he stuttered "I just play with them when I'm nervous" as the lie left his mouth he relaxed slightly.
"Well then if you do need them why were you fidgeting with them" I drummed my fingers on my crossed arm.
"Well cause i'm nervous" the boy gave me a look of contempt.
"You might be now but you weren't when I shook your hand" I looked down at his wrist where I left a finger mark from taking his pulse during the handshake.
"You took my pulse" the boy pulled off the glasses "Show me how you did that" well at least he's admitting he doesn't need the glasses but Dawn was still not comfortable.
"I'm not under any obligation to show you how to do anything so just move along and don't bother us again" I gritted my teeth and straightened my back as much as I can. The boy mumbled something under his breath and threw the book at my feet before leaving. "What the fuck was that?" I turned to face Dawn who had finally relaxed.
"That's the governor's son and you just pissed him off royally" she giggled slightly "You're good at that you know".
"Good at what?" I raised my eyebrow at her.
"The bodyguard thing" she smiled falling into one of the old armchairs.
"Oh you think I'm good? You should see my brother" I laughed collapsing back into my armchair.
"I'm not sure it gets better then that" Dawn was looking at the pile of books strewn across the floor.
"I'm more of an in the shadows person" I followed her line of sight, "Was nice of him to leave us a task huh" She snorted at my comment, before getting up and placing the book carefully on the round coffee table next to us. "You're more up and down then my father's mood".

"Wait Saff, they are leaving the room now" Dawn was looking over the railing at the guards leaving the room the boys went into. "Oh, wait they aren't there, they must have left when you were arguing with Darren" I looked at her puzzled before I pieced together that must be the name of the governor's kid.
"How old is that Darren kid?"
"Oh, he's like seventeen. I think" She was shuffling from one foot to the other.
"You're scared of a child?" I tried not to sound condescending, because I had a feeling there was more to the story.
"Well, no I'm not scared of him but i'm scared of the power he holds here at the manor" I really needed to teach this girl some confidence I was getting fed up with talking to the top of her head.
"A seventeen year old has some sort of power in a place where everyone who joins is older than him?" I held back a giggle.
"Saff he's the governor's son, he got a girl kicked out last year for just asking him to move out the way politely" I gently patted her shoulder.
"Good thing I was polite then" she smiled and swatted my hand off her.
"Let's go I want to show you the lake" she pulled at my jumper, and I reluctantly followed her.

The walk down to the lake was beautiful, the paths were lined with wildflowers. Not exactly what you expected for a glorified training camp for criminals. As we rounded the last bend in what had turn into more of a trail like path we heard voices, voices I recognised.

"Ijust don't understand why your father would request for her to be kept away from us" Mattheo actually sounded worried for the first time. My brother was just sat on the end of the boat dock.
"If he did then that means he had a good reason Matt, just let it go" Mattheo joined Theo at the edge of the dock.
"But why would he go against my father?" Theo turned to Matt with a confused lookon his face.
