Chapter 83 - Calla

Hey guys! I hope you all have been liking this fanfiction so far. Just need to tell you, there is a time skip of 12 years in this chapter. Everyone has aged 12 years, and most importantly, Asher and Jewel are both 12 years old.

                                       * 12 years later - Asher and Jewel's birthday celebration *

Today is the day of Asher and Jewel's shared tweflth birthday party. I watch as all the kids run around and have a great time as I glance at Juline. I bite my lip as I quickly walk over to her.

"Juline?" I say quietly. She turns towards me with a bright smile.

"Hi, Calla! What's up?" She replies.

"Can I talk to you... in private, please?" I say nervously as Juline's expression turns from happy to concerned.

"Of course," she says slowly as we walk inside of my house, away from the celebration happening in the backyard. 

"So, um..." I say nervously.

"Calla, you're my best friend. We are best friends. You can tell me anything. Is something wrong?" Juline says worriedly.

I nod. "You're right. We are best friends. I just wanted to talk to you about Asher and Jewel."

Juline frowns. "I think those two are great. Did something happen to them?"

I shake my head. "No, they are great. There is nothing wrong with them. It's just that... they haven't gotten or received any sort of sign that their abilities are coming along, and they're both now 12 years old. 12 is the age that they should be getting or already have their abilities."

Juline nods. "You've got a point there. Continue."

I bite my lip. "I've been thinking about this for a long time, and... do you think those two haven't gotten their abilities yet because we had wine on the night that we both got pregnant?"

Juline gasps. "Oh my god. Calla, I think you're right. What should we do? Are they both going to be talentless?"

I look away. "I don't think they're going to be talentless. It's a possibility, but it's unlikely."

Juline shakes her head in disbelief. "Oh no... what are we going to do? Why did we behave so immaturely back then? Calla, do you think we can take them to Elwin?"

"Elwin won't be able to change anything," I say. "He's smart and he has pretty advanced technology and potions, but he can't change when an elf is going to get their ability. No one can."

Juline sighs. "So... what are we going to do?"

"We'll just have to sit and wait. As I said before, I don't think our kids will be talentless. I think that their abilities are just, well... stunted. Like, if you slouch a lot, your growth is stunted. It's the same thing for our children's abilities. Their abilities won't come in until their 15 or 16." I sigh.

Juline smiles sadly, trying to be positive. "Well, according to your theory, they should come in at one point, right? So it's not all bad."

I smile. "Yeah. I think so."

Juline hugs me tight and doesn't let go. "Everything is going to be okay, alright? Everything will be okay."

I grin back at Juline as we walk back outside to the party, silently acknowledging the conversation and not to share it with anyone. 

We walk back outside, and as I begin to walk back to my husband, out of the corner of my eye, I see Linh frowning and giving death glares to the kids. I frown, but I just ignore it. I saw it out of the corner of my eye, so I should be wrong.

Plus, Linh's a friend. She would never do anything wrong.

Hey guys! That's the end of the chapter. I've begun to hint at maybe a quarter of my whole plan, so maybe you guys know what I'm thinking...? But we'll just have to wait and see! Make sure to comment your ideas on what you think is going to happen. 😋
