I walked out of the house, locking the door behind me and slipping into his blue Ford bronco sport. "Hey!" I kind of blurt out as I'm putting on my seatbelt.
"Hey, you look nice" he pull up from the curb and I couldn't help but blush from the comment. "Thanks."
It's weird being out of work and not talking about a patient or what to do next or just complaining that I'm tired.
"So-"
"Um"
We both go to talk at the same time And a nervous laugh slips out past my lips. "No no you go." I say and I look over to him.
"So I was gonna say that we're going to one of the local bars that I used to go to when I was in school. It's not too crazy. It's pretty chill." I nod my head and for the rest of the ride there we just kind of sit in silence.
He pulls in a parking spot that is sorted in the alleyway and I couldn't help but scan my surroundings as we both get out of the car and walk up to the door. There is a bouncer out front and we handed him both our IDs before we went in. " here let's grab a table in the back and then I will grab us a drink." I grab his hand as he navigates us through the crowd. there was one table with two high top chairs in the corner of the bar.
"What are you getting." He asks. I was treating it like a trick question for no reason.
"Um I guess I'll get a vodka cran." He smiles at me and disappears in the crowd. I pull out my phone and smile at the text Brooke sent saying 'text me SOS if you need me to call with a fake emergency.' I just reacted to the text with a thumbs up and see that it's 9:30.
I scan the area and it looks like their setting for a band and it's pretty crowded so I wouldn't be surprised if there was one tonight. "One vodka cran for the lady." Mason says placing the drink in front of me "well thank you kind sir." I take the straw to my lips and instantly tell this is a double.
I let out a small cough from the taste of pure vodka burning my throat. "Everything alright?" He gives me an amusing look and I just stir the drink.
"Yes just haven't drank in a bit." And then I take another sip drinking from the surface this time.
"There's this rock band playing tonight. They usually play nickelback covers or AC/DC." I was right.
"I figured. So how was work the rest of the night?" I ask finally finding the courage to make conversation.
He let out a groan. "Terrible. I wanted to jump out the window." I let out a laugh and roll my eyes.
"I don't blame you. I feel that way with my normal shift I couldn't imagine staying there for another 12 hours!" I had to start raising my voice as the band started to play.
The band started out with 'Savin me' by Nickelback and they were actually pretty good. "Are you ready for another!" Mason screamed in my ear and I look down at my drink not even realizing that I had finished my drink already.
I was actually feeling really good and it was nice to be somewhere different without worrying about this or that happening. Just a nice, enjoyable night out. What felt even better was being with someone new, he doesn't know me, my past.
We finally reached the bar after pushing through the crowd. "Same thing!?" He looks back at me and I just nod my head aggressively. At this point I didn't think it was worth screaming back. I look down and see I'm still holding onto his hand.
