2: Absence and Peace

Here I am.

The small town I left exactly 8 years ago.

The day I left Everest at the prison, Austin took me back home and I packed my shit.

My cousin Sarah drove me to the airport and I left to the big city.

I left to New York because my mother's sister, Marlyn lived up there with her 10 kids.

It was a small place to live in but I got my own room. I finished high school then I finished collage.

Then one day I decided I needed to come home. So that's what I did.

"OH MY GOD AVERY!" Sarah yells as she runs up to me in the middle of the airport.

"Hey Sarah." I can barely say as she squeezes the shit out of me.

She finally lets me go and I can finally breath again. "Come on! We should go now because the other girls will be back from afternoon classes."

Sarah lives in a sorority in town. When she said she wants to leave now, Meaning her sisters don't like outsiders being in there home.

We get into her beat up pink buggy and drive home.

I can't tell you how many memories are flashing through my head as we drive the center of town. I smile but clear my throat as we pass two bikers smoking on the side walk.

"So how have you been?" I ask and averted my eyes to her.

"Omg I've been great. Party's all the time, straight A's some B's. I'm just kinda seeing a couple guys here and there. I had a bunch of sorority stuff. Except today because you came home."

She just kept talking and talking, so I listened and listened till we finally pulled in the big brick building.

We both get out and well she runs to the door but I walk. I'm really trying to take my time being here again.

When I walk in I'm jumped on again but not from Sarah. "Hi Brooklyn!" I hug her back and we end up falling in the floor.

We break out in a fit of laughter and eventually get up. "I missed you so much, you bitch! You haven't called or texted me!" She pushes my shoulder.

"I'm sorry! It's just I wasn't in the right place up there you know?" She gives me a ushering smile.

"Yeah I know." We both get up and she walks me into the kitchen were Sarah is.

"So what have you been up to. We've been talking about us, so what about you?" Sarah says handing me a beer from the fridge.

I take a sip lookin at Brooke then back to Sarah. "Nothing really just finished school."

"No boyfriend!?" I spit the beer back in the the bottle and start choking. "NO!- no there wasn't anyone up there for me."

She nods giving me a curious look. Brooke was about to say something but a group of chartering girls came in to the house.

Sarah and Brooklyn walk out into the Front room and I slowly followed behind.

They were all talking until one girl noticed me. "hey...who is this?" A redhead says.

"Oh this is my cousin she just came to visit she just came back in town." Sarah says as she grabs my arm to take me to the front door.

"Well aren't you going to introduce her?" another girl says with bright pink lipstick on.

"This is Avery!" Brooks says taking me from Sarah.

"Avery King?" A girl says as she comes to the front of the crowd of girls.
