"So Azalea Town is it's own little place. All of it's sources it gets from the economy in the town. The electricity, water supply, food, that's all sourced from somewhere in town or in the forest." Toni described the town to the group after Theo asked her. "It runs on it's own, basically isolated from the rest of the region. The town isn't very big, so everybody knows each other. I was pretty much a celebrity in town for a couple days when I was chosen to pick a starter Pokèmon and decided I wanted to take on the gym challenge."
Theo raised his eyebrows, impressed by her story. "Wow, that must've felt really ego-boosting to have that attention on yourself huh?"
"Yeah," she simply nodded. "and after being the latest graduate of the Pokèmon Institute, it was actually more like two weeks."
Nessa turned and tilted her head, "there's a Pokèmon Institute in Azalea Town? I thought it was just in-"
"-in the community near here." Toni finished for her. "Yeah, I attended for about a year, and with top credits, I promoted out early. I pretty much know most things about Pokèmon, it's just the battling part I seem to struggle with. I can't get myself to really stay in the moment and react to certain things."
Theo shook his head, "It seemed earlier like you were in the hang of it. When you battled Nessa and caught Caterpie, it seemed like you were totally focused." He told her his perspective on it.
She shrugged, "I don't know. It may seem like it I guess but-"
"Guys, we have a problemmm." Quinton dragged the word with annoyance. Theo and Toni looked back ahead and noticed a yellow sign with traffic cones blocking the path.. "Caution: Path and area blocked due to digging of hidden pit traps." He read the sign with a tired voice. "Well, it looks like we have to backtrack and wait for the path to reopen, unless there's another way to town." The trio simultaneously turned to face Toni, who slightly covered her face, embarrassed by the sets of eyes on her.
"Uhh.." she paused to think, looking around. "no other way but this one." She slowly spoke, disappointed to have to wait. "Though, if we make our way back to the Pokèmon Center, we can take the other branching path up to the hills and rest in the little community that lives there." She suggested. "Unless you just wanna stay at the center again."
"Community?" Theo repeated after her.
With a head nod, "It's too small to be considered a town. It's a small number of people who live in homes up in the hills."
"That sounds great. Let's go to the hills!"
. . .
. . .
"Just a little further." Toni said as she and the group trotted up the hill. The other three sighed in relief when a few homes came into view. "This is the lonely village." She spoke when the trio realized those few houses were the entire village. There were four homes, and one open building with a sign above, saying "Comfort Hotel and Rest Stop". It was all situated on the top of a hill, looking over the forest. An abundance of flowers ran down the hill, with few trees scattered around this high. "We can stay here. Hopefully the path is reopened by later or tomorrow." She once again spoke up as they walked into the rest stop.
