"Ritchie..."

Maureen Cox, only 18 years old, turned to face her boyfriend, 24 year old Ringo Starr. They were in Ringo's hotel in London. The Beatles were touring there, and Maureen had gone up to visit Ringo, and to tell him something important...

"Yes, my love?" Ringo asked, looking up from his comic book. He was laying on the bed, while Maureen was sitting anxiously next to him.

"I- I have to tell you something..."

"What is it?" Ringo asked, his voice flooding with concern as he placed his comic book down and moved closer to her.

"Remember... remember that night when you and the others came back from Switzerland, and- and-"

"Yes Mo, I remember. It was, what, two months ago? Crazy, feels like yesterday. And here we are, on another tour. I'm so sorry you have to go through this, not seein' me half the time..."

"Ritchie, it's not that," Maureen kissed his cheek, "it's- it's... about that night, I think- "

"Maureen, tell me what's wrong," Ringo looked at her, seriousness in his blue eyes.

"I'm pregnant, Ritchie," Maureen sobbed, starting to cry, "I'm so sorry. I- I didn't mean to... I thought we were careful... But I guess we must have forgotten..."

"Oh Maureen..." Ringo embraced her gently. Maureen cried right into his shoulder, wetting his suit. Finally Ringo let go of her and looked her directly in the eye.

"Is it true?" he asked, "t-that you're pregnant?"

"Yes. I was late, and I- I went to the doctor, and he told me..."

"Mo," Ringo asked, his voice shaking, "how long?"

"A few weeks," Maureen answered, her voice trembling, "almost a month."

"Oh Mo, you're- you're- " Ringo stuttered, "you're pregnant! Oh my goodness! I'm gonna be a father!"

"But Ritchie, what will they say?" Maureen sniffled, "the- the press... they'll find out... oh Ritchie... they're going to give our baby the worst life! What are we going to do?!"

"We'll get married," Ringo told her, "right away. We'll get Brian to arrange it, and- and we'll get married. As soon as possible, Mo. Before you, y'know, start showing."

"But how?!" Maureen sobbed, falling onto his chest, "how is Brian going to arrange a wedding in only a few days??"

"I'll call him as soon as possible," Ringo replied, "I'll call him right now, in fact." He picked up the nearby telephone, dialed a few numbers, and waited for the person at the other end to pick up.

Finally they answered.

"Hello, Brian? Yes, I- I just have to tell you, straight to the point. Maureen's pregnant. About a month. We've gotta get married before she starts showing, society... y'know... could you perhaps... arrange a wedding? Super quick? Maybe by... February 11th? Hmm? Okay, that'd be great! Thanks! Bye!" Ringo then hung up.

"What'd he say?" Maureen asked, her eyes still wet with tears.

"He says he can do it, by February 11th," Ringo replied breathlessly, "we're gonna be married, Mo."

"Oh Ritchie, I'm so nervous. What are my parents going to say?"

"We won't tell them," Ringo told her, pulling her close, "we won't even tell me Mum and Harry."

"What about the lads?"

"Well... Paul'll be outta town, John would take it horribly, but perhaps George..."
