Seven

I couldn't sleep.

My mind was still racing, desperately trying to make sense of what I heard Madam Olympia and Gamma Thomas arguing about earlier.

I couldn't even begin to put together the pieces.

What were they so scared about Ambrose finding out?

They had said something about his mate. Something about me. But none of it made any sense.

Ever since Ambrose had stormed into the kitchen just a few nights ago, nothing was making sense anymore.

My heart was still racing even after I locked the bedroom door behind me, I couldn't find the strength in me to get back up and go down to my old bedroom. I was too afraid that Gamma Thomas would be hiding just around the corner, his claws out and ready to punish me.

The old scars across my body ached at the mere thought.

* * *

When Ambrose finally got back from his meeting with the Blood Moon Alpha, I didn't tell him what I had overheard.

That little voice in the very back of my mind stopped me just as the words were on the tip of my tongue.

Don't, it said. Not yet. Not yet.

Before the night I met Ambrose, that little voice had barely ever spoken up, but now it never seemed to stop talking.

And right now, as I tossed and turned in the too-soft, too-warm, oversized bed with Ambrose right beside me, that little voice wouldn't stop murmuring in the back of my mind.

Ambrose's arms were wound tightly around me, half of my face pressed against his bare chest as he softly snored.

Usually, I was so exhausted after a day of chores that the second my head touched my thread-bare pillow, I was out. But all that I had done today was worry and pace around my new bedroom.

Just as I finally shut my eyes and felt sleep grab hold of me, I was awake.

But I wasn't lying in bed anymore. I wasn't in the bedroom at all.

I was outside.

The sun was high up in the sky and I could feel the wind rushing by me, ruffling through my hair.

Ambrose wasn't with me anymore. But I wasn't alone. There was someone else here, someone that I didn't know, but still felt so oddly familiar.

There was a lady standing in front of me, just a few feet away.

My feet moved on their own accord, stepping closer to her until I was right in front of her.

The lady was glowing. There was no other way to put it.

A bright silver light was shining out from her, completely mesmerizing me and stopping me in my tracks.

Her blonde hair was flowing gently down her back in soft, golden curls, with white flowers scattered throughout her hair.

She was beautiful. There was no other way to describe her. She was simply beautiful.

I was so caught up staring at her and the way that the white, lacey dress flowed around her body that I almost missed the fact that she was floating a few inches off the ground. The hem of her dress just barely brushed over the green grass she was hovering over.

"My child." Her voice was smooth like honey. Sweet and warm. "I've been waiting so long to finally meet you."

This is a dream, I chanted over and over. This is a dream. It isn't real. It's a dream.
