Seven
I was wordless the next morning as I sat down and let Mara fix my hair any way she liked.
You'd be a disaster as a Luna Queen.
Cora's words have been echoing through my mind all night.
You'd be a disaster as a Luna Queen.
Mara hummed softly to herself as she carefully pinned back loose curls from my face.
I had only given her a soft, weak smile when she knocked on the bedroom door this morning, a silver platter of fresh fruit and a hot cup of tea in her arms.
Mara didn't say anything about my lack of words, she didn't make any comments about my mood whatsoever. She just placed the fruit and tea down in the same spot she always does and went into my closet to pick out my dress for the day.
"All done," Mara told me happily as she finished pinning the final braid into place. "What do you think, My Lady?"
Mara had once again braided my hair beautifully. She had braided each side of my head and tied them together at the back in a high ponytail, a much more casual style than she'd done before.
"It'll all make sense when you see your dress for the day," Mara commented as I turned side to side in the chair to look at my hair. "I thought that it would be the perfect style to compliment it."
Mara turned around and grabbed the dress, not letting me fully take it in before shoving it into my hands and telling me to go change.
The dress was shorter than any other that Mara had given me before. It was made out of structured, light mint green tulle and fell to just below my knees, the bodice of the dress was moulded perfectly to my body, giving me enough room to move around without feeling constricted. Instead of the normal fitted long sleeves on the dresses Mara picked out for me, this one had thin tulle straps that were tied into perfect bows on the top.
As much as I love this dress, I was confused about why Mara hinted that I would need this dress today.
But instead of Mara standing outside the bathroom door like normal, ready to tell me how beautiful I looked, she was gone.
And Ambrose was standing there instead.
"Wow," he breathed out, his eyes looking me over from head to toe. "You look... just wow, Little One."
Ambrose had been so bust since we've gotten back to the Royal pack that I've hardly seen him at all.
"How did I get so lucky?" He hummed as he pulled me closer to him and plated a soft kiss on my forehead, being careful to stay away from my hair that Mara had spent so long on just moments ago.
My heart was beating fast in my chest. "What..." I trailed off, afraid that my question would hurt his feelings.
"What am I doing here?" Ambrose asked, taking the words right out of my mouth. "I know that I haven't been around a lot since we got to the Royal pack," he said. "I haven't been the mate that you deserve. But I left Silas in charge today so that I could take you out and give you a proper tour of my favourite place.
"It's ok," I told him honestly. "You're the Alpha King, and-"
"And you're my mate." Ambrose cut me off. "I'd give up my title in a heartbeat if it came down between it and you. I will always choose you first. You are the better half of my soul."
All the doubt that's been running through my mind was suddenly washed away at Ambrose's words.
"Is this what Mara was hinting at when she said that my hair and dress would be perfect for today?" I teased Ambrose, all the light-hearted energy that I felt just days before with my mate was back again.
