𝟎𝟎𝟓, 𝐢'𝐦 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐲 𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐭

*THOMAS' POV*

after all issy had told me, the cranks scared the life out of me. but i couldn't think about that right now.

then, i looked at the floor and saw millie walking towards then and without hesitation, i ran towards her and picked her up.

me and issy started running at full speed trying to get away from these horrible monsters. once we'd left WICKED, i never thought anything like this would happen.

my adrenaline kicked in and i was running faster than i ever thought i could. luckily, issy seemed like she was quite a strong runner, which was good for these circumstances.

i didn't think that turning the lights on had such big consequences, but i guess it does. we woke up the cranks and now we were pretty much dead, unless there was another was out of here other that the way we came in.

i don't really know why there was a sign on the wall that said 'turn the lights on' but thinking about that now it is extremely creepy.

we turned some corners and saw everyone else in their little groups not too far away from us.

"RUN!" we screamed.

they looked startled by us and then as soon as the cranks turned the corner, they sprinted as fast as they could.

i knew that some of them weren't as strong runners as me and minho but that is because we did it everyday. but i didn't get to do it for that long because i wasn't in the maze for nearly as long as minho.

newt couldn't run properly because he had a limp, he never told me why but i'll leave it to him for when he decides to tell me. if he ever does.

minho was at the front, of course. he was leading everyone somewhere, i don't know where but it was away from the cranks, so he was doing something right.

we got to this main area, that now that i could properly see it, that looked like a mall. it was a massive area that was surrounded by what seemed like hundreds of escalators.

i ran faster to give millie to ben so i could distract the cranks and get them away from everyone else.

i stopped running for a second, waiting for them to catch up to me.

"tom, what are you doing?" issy asked me. i loved it when she called me tom. it felt like home.

"distracting them." i replied.

"i'm coming with you, i wouldn't leave you to get yourself killed on your own now, would i?" she replied and that just made me like her even more.

i nodded at her and we ran up the nearest escalator, praying that the cranks would follow us. they were quite slow at running but i'd understand why.

we ran up and one of them grabbed issy's leg, i was hoping they wouldn't scratch or bite her because now i knew what it would do to her. i grabbed her hand and pulled her up. luckily, i was stronger than cranks.

we ran faster as i didn't want the cranks to grab her again. "iz, you alright?" i asked her.

"yeah, i mean i think so." she said.

we finally got to the top of the escalator and we started sprinting again. but i think we lost the others. i wanted to go back for them but there was no time.

we ran some more and finally saw an opening to hopefully the outside but i had no clue because it was so dark.

we got out there and saw this little house and we ran straight to it. the house wasn't too far away, or at least it didn't seem it.

we got to the house, opened the door and went in it. the door wasn't locked, which was good because otherwise we'd be stuck out there with cranks all night.

straight away we sat down on the wooden floor and shut the door. we sat for a while until either of us spoke.

if we really had lost the others, i don't know what's happened to them, what if they are all dead and we did this for nothing. no, thomas don't think about that.

the only thing i'm happy about is the person i'm with. in reality, she's the only person i'd actually want to be here with. no one else. not even teresa.

she shuffled closer to me and i put my arm around her shoulders to make her feel more comfortable. we moved back towards to wall so we had something to lean our backs on for the night.

i'm pretty sure she fell asleep before me so i felt like i couldn't move. but eventually, i fell asleep too.

the morning came fast and i woke up purely because of the beam of sunlight right in my eye line. i looked down to check if issy was awake. wow. she's still asleep.

i waited for her to wake up and i wasn't waiting for a long time because the beam of sunlight slowly moved into her eye line.

her eyes started opening and she turned her head to look up at me, who was looking down at her. "morning." she said, wiping her eyes.

"good sleep?" i asked her.

"yeah." she replied. "i think we should get moving. if we are lost then we should head for the mountains."

"why the mountains?" i said.

"ben will know this too, so he will head there as well. but i'm pretty sure there is people there called the right arm who are against WICKED. they take children from there and take them to a real safe heaven." she said.

"alright then, lets go." i said eager to get going.

we got up and looked around the house for a bit, just to look for any resources we could use for the days ahead.

i found a knife that would possibly be a good weapon to fight off the cranks. after a while of searching, we decided to get going because we never know how long it would take to get to the mountains.
