Not So Broken
Chapter 39-40
Ava moves in with Noah and Allie
temporarilyNoah
Allie shivers beside me and I pull her closer, smiling when she mumbles something in her sleep.
Leo lays on the floor beside her side of the bed and I watch his head pop up at her sudden movement before pushing our bedroom door open and leaving.
Despite my dislike him for the dog at the beginning, I've grown to like the fur ball. Maybe even love the stupid animal.
Allie's therapist suggested we train him to detect panic and anxiety attacks which he's been doing for a few months now and has been learning the signs quickly.
Leo absolutely loves Allie. He's at her side as much as he can be. We're watching a movie? He's at her feet on the couch. She's simply walking around the apartment? He's trailing behind her from a distance but we've noticed he backs off a bit when I'm here like he knows he's done his job for the day.
"You promised we would watch the new season of Abbott Elementary," Allie whispers, her voice still thick with sleep. She doesn't even bother opening her eyes, just snuggles deeper into me.
"You were the one who fell asleep not even a quarter way through," I point out and she huffs, knowing I'm right but in all fairness, she's been training extremely hard right now in preparation for the Olympics that are happening in Paris in a couple of weeks.
My lips find her hair and work her way down her neck, smirking when she starts fidgeting. Her eyes pop open when I flip us so I'm hovering over her, my lips glued to her neck.
The doorbell rings-which is strange since we aren't expecting anyone but I ignore it, soaking up every bit of time with my girlfriend as I can.
"Noah, stop! I think I heard the doorbell!" Allie laughs, the sound so fucking sweet and I smile down at her.
"Never. Have I told you how much I love kissing you?"
"Yes," She deadpans, her face blank like she's trying to be serious but her lips twitch, "Multiple times, actually."
"You little fucking smartass," I mumble against her lips, my fingers trailing down her hips until I'm met with the waistband of my sweats that she stole from me last night, hanging extremely loose off her tiny frame.
She slaps my hand away and I pout. She raises an eyebrow at me. "You said we were just gonna watch some of our TV show."
"And why can't we do both?" I shiver when her nail comes up and traces the outline of my bicep tattoo.
We get interrupted when the door bell rings again and I let out a long groan, rolling off her. Allie pats my cheek. "Serves you right for trying to ruin the new season."
"Not ruin...just make it more fun." I say and she laughs again, throwing my shirt over her head before leaving the room.
Fuck, she stole all my clothes. "Noah!" Allie shouts. "It's Ava! Put on some fucking pants!"
"You have my fucking pants!" I shout back, slamming the bathroom door shut before changing into clean boxers and sweats.
"Allie? Did you want me to cut up some fruit...what the fuck?" Ava is sobbing in my girlfriends arms, her body trembling so bad not even Allie holding her is stopping the tremors.
"Noah? Could you grab her bags?" Allie points to the discarded bags in the hall and I nod, watching Allie sign something to Ava about getting her set up in her room and how we were just about to make breakfast.
What the fuck did you do, Cam?
I start breakfast, letting Allie and Ava have some time to sort everything out. It's about an hour before they do step out from the guest room. Ava's changed into her pajamas, her arms wrapped around herself as she trails behind Allie and takes a seat with her at the island.
"Hey, Ava." I hesitate, trying to smile so I don't look like a dick as Mike would say before signing, "Breakfast? There's pancakes and fruit if you like. And Nutella."
Ava just nods. I shoot a concerned look to Allie but she gives me a smile. Since Ava doesn't seem like the type of person who wants to be coddled, Allie and I watch some TV and eat, Leo at our feet. Ava joins us halfway through the second episode and she allows herself to relax more and more with each minute.
"Am I barging in on any plans? I can go-"
Allie cuts her off. "No. We want you here. We're gonna take Leo on a walk around Stanley Park if you want to join us and tonight's movie night as well. We're thinking of watching Strays if you'd like to join. Fair warning, we watch a lot of TV around here."
We don't. But after our long days, all we both want to do is cuddle in bed and relax. Ava offers a weak smile. I'm gonna beat Cam's ass so fucking hard tomorrow.
"Maybe...could I join you on your walk?" Ava signs, "And I would love to watch the movie with you."
"Of course," Allie says, shifting closer to Ava, "You can stay as long as you need, alright? Doesn't matter how long that stay is. And let us know if you have any ideas for dinner."
Ava smiles her most genuine smile since she's been here. "Thank you. I'm gonna-" She nods towards her temporary room and we both nod, watching her trail down the hall.
"What do you think happened?" When someone's crying like that, shaking so hard they might vibrate out of their own skin and eyes so red you wonder how long they've been sobbing, it means nothing but bad things.
Allie's fingers intertwine with mine, her hand the size of my palm. "I'm think Cam finally realized he's in love. Maybe a little too late, though."
