I woke in my bed to the sound of thunder. It was raining and thunderous outside. Like the sky was angry. Is the sky angry? I feel like I just woke up from a dream.
"Was it a dream?" I sat up. "It's raining really hard." I slipped out of the bed and walked to the window. I pushed the curtain aside and looked out.
I saw the purple haired woman wearing a black dress standing there. Outside by the garden. Her back was to me. What? Who is she? She turned around and I could see her face, but not her eyes. She smiled and I closed my eyes. I felt an unusual intense pain in my heart. I collapsed onto the floor. The windows burst out and I sat up. Slowly, I opened my eyes.
I was outside, standing in front of the fountain and Yui was with me. How did we get here?
"Yui?" I asked.
"Ikaros? How did I get here?" She asked.
I heard voices. Yui and I turn to look to see younger versions of Laito, Ayato and Kanato running pass us chasing bats. They were laughing and smiling like normal children. They looked be eight years old or younger. Yui and I watch them in silence. Kanato started to cry when his bats flew away from him. He held Teddy close to him.
"The bats I just caught got away," he cried softly.
"Don't cry, Kanato," Laito said in reassurance. "We can catch them again."
Ayato smiled, and put his hands on his hips. "Yeah, stop your sniveling! I'll catch 'em for you!" Ayato said as he and Laito took off.
"Ayato?"
Ayato and Laito stop running and look at the woman who was walking towards them. Yui's eyes widen at the sight of her. It's that woman! She was wearing that same black dress, and her purple hair was in the same style. And, I could see her green eyes that were the same as Laito and Ayato. Her attention was on Ayato and she wasn't happy.
"Is this were you've been?" She said as she walked towards them. "Now come along with me."
Laito look at Kanato who rushed to his side.
"Kanato, let's go," he said.
"Sure." Both of them left, leaving the woman and Ayato alone. Ayato looked like he didn't wanted to be left alone with her.
"You're going back inside to study," she said.
Ayato shook his head and looked down. "N . . . No way! All I've done is study!"
"I don't want any excuses. Return to your room."
"How come Kanato and Laito get to play while all I ever get to do is study?"
"Because you're not like other children," she said calmly. Kanato and Laito were running and playing around them. Like they were pretending they weren't there.
"No, I wanna play more!"
"How many times must I tell you?!" She yelled, causing Ayato to flinch back. "You are the successor. Do you understand what that means? Now, tell me what you must do."
Ayato's eyes lower in sadness. "I must become number one. I must become better than anyone."
"And if you fail?"
"I am not my mother's child, so I will be sunk to the bottom of the lake." Ayato said.
"Exactly, good boy!" She said, smiling cruelly. "You are worthless to me unless you are number one. Worthless boys must spend eternity at the cold, damp bottom of the lake, all alone, where no one can help them. Unless that's what you want, go to your room." His mother was cruel.
