Laito had me down on the bed and was holding me down by my wrist. I tried to get free, but he was a lot stronger than me. He laughed at my attempts. I glared up at him. He's enjoying this. What does he plan to do to me? Why is it always me he chooses to mess with? I don't want Yui to have to deal with him, but whats so great about me? I'm really not that interesting. My chest started to hurt.

He leaned down and placed a kiss on my lips. My face burned with shame. His lip moved from my mouth to my neck. His fangs pierced my skin, and I bit back a groan. After drinking a small amount of my blood, he let me go.

"I'll leave you alone now," he said, licking his lips. "I have plans that can wait for tomorrow." What does he mean by that? I have a bad feeling. I closed my eyes opened them again and he was gone.

I closed my eyes and left the darkness take me . . .

I woke up again to the pain in my heart. I sat up and placed my hands over my heart. I haven't felt such pain since he left me. The boy that I loved so much had died and left me alone. I miss him so much. Why did he leave me? If he was still here, maybe I would be with him right now.

I decided to take a walk to clear my head.

I don't want to think about him. I haven't thought about him in years. That's because I suppressed everything. I didn't want to feel sad because that reminded me that he was dead. I didn't want to feel happiness without him. I didn't want to feel my anger over his death. I didn't want to feel anything. I just wanted to forget him. I wished I never met him.

I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at my surroundings. I stood in front of a small building by the lake. How did I get here? Was I so wrapped up in my thoughts that I didn't notice where I was going? I continue to surprise myself. I wasn't the only one taking a walk. Yui was too.

"Hi," she said, giving me a small smile.

We walked towards the small building. I looked inside and a bunch of bat came flying out. They flew right at us. Yui was swatting at them because they flew around her head for a few seconds. She was shouting at the bats like they could understand her.

"Oh, be quiet," a familiar voice said from inside. The bats flew away from her. Yui calmed down and we went inside together.

"Is that you, Shu?" Yui asked. No, it's the boogie man, I thought sarcastically.

He was sitting down, earphones in his ears and appeared to be reading a very old book. It breaks my heart to look at him. It's like he was made to constantly remind me of him! It's not fair! I have to remember to focus on his eyes. His eyes were a soft green where Shu's eyes are a light ocean blue. If Shu was to have green eyes, I would have shattered already.

"Do you want something?" He asked without looking up at us.

"We're sorry to disturb you," Yui said. "Um, I . . . "

"Something has been wrong with me, us recently," I said. To prove to myself I wasn't going to break at the mere sight of him. "I can hear the voice of a woman who isn't there and I feel unsteady."

"I don't feel like myself either," Yui said.

"Really?" He said, sounding uninterested. "All right, come here, Ikaros." His book slipped from his hand and he pulled me to him. He gently lied me down.

"Let her go!" Yui said, too afraid to move. He ignored her and continued to stare down at me. I swallowed my fear. "What are you doing?"

He pushed my hair aside and turned my head.

"Let me go," I whispered. His thumb rubbed the side of my neck. He leaned down and bit into me. It didn't hurt like the first time I was bitten. Yui cried and covered her eyes.

"Your blood has changed," he said, pushing himself up. "The awakening is at hand." Awakening? I looked up at him. "Your blood is different." Again, his thumb rubbed my neck. He licked my blood off his thumb. "It's hot and bursting out now." He bit me again. Yui was yelling at him to stop. I tried to use my hand to push him off. He stopped and grabbed my hand. "Your neck isn't the only part of you supplied with blood." He placed his lips on my wrist. "Fresh, new blood also flows through your wrists. I can tell, even through your skin. It smells good." He gave me a strange look. "Don't move." He bit into my wrist.

I gasped and closed my eyes. When I opened them, Shu was looking down at me.

"You and your sister have the blood of the finest quality," he said. "I'll give you that much." I stared up at him with wide eyes. "Are you frightened? I'm not opposed to the look of fear in your eyes. Much better than the emptiness." He lifted me up and leaned towards my neck. He's not finished yet? He bit down and started drinking again. I looked at Yui and gave her a reassuring look. I gripped his shirt.

"Stop," I said softly.

"Your blood is more delicious than anyone's. Even your sister's. It slaves my every thirst," he said.

"Shu, no," Yui said, sounding afraid.

"So, this is the awakening." He chuckled and stopped drinking. "Women are terrifying. I'm all worked up in spite of myself. You're impressive."

"What do you mean by the awakening?" Yui asked. He released me.

"No sacrificial bride has ever survive to the point of awakening."

"Sacrificial bride?" Yui asked. "Tell us. What is the real reason we are here?" Shu stood up."Does our father have a strong connection to your family?"

"He'll answer your questions," he said. Who? "I know you're here."

"You have always been very perceptive," another voice said. A strangely familiar man came inside. He had shoulder length dark green hair and dark red eyes and he wore all black.

"Ex . . . excuse me, but who are you?" Yui asked.

"This is Richter," Shu said. "Our uncle." He was the man at the lake with Cordelia. Shu picked up his book and left us alone with this man.

"Please forgive the poor manners of my nephews," he said, moving closer to us. "I try to smarten them up, but it never takes. So, what is it that you wish to know?"

"I want to know why we came here," Yui said. "I want to know why was we chosen. And how our father involved with the s . . . sacrificial brides." He smirked.

"Chosen? How conceited can you be?" He asked. "You came to this house because you're a suitable bridal age and were the easiest mortal to obtain? Only a foolish mortal would consider such a thing necessity or chance."

"Then our father . . . "

"This does not involve anyone as inferior as your father," he said to Yui's relief.

"He really didn't know about this!" She said. "Thank God." That unusual pain hit me in my chest. I placed my hand over my heart. I looked at Yui and she seemed to be in pain, too. But it seemed to hit her much worse. My heart beats were so loud.

Richter just stared down at us.

"Oh . . . I will finally see you once again," he said. I was in too much pain to care what he was talking about. "Finally, my darling."

Yui and I looked up at him with wide eyes.

"How long I have waited for this moment to arrive," he said, and he held his arms out. "Now, come to me!" The wind began to blow. I felt dizzy.

"What's happening?" Yui asked.

That pain hit me twice as hard and I fell into darkness . . .
