"jo hai unkahi, jo hai unsuni
wo baat kya hai bata"
JANHAVI
Both of us were very tired and had gone to sleep within 11pm. Though Ishan was fast asleep, I couldn't close my eyes. Various thoughts were invading my mind.
How just a month back, both of us were strangers, hating and cursing our fate that had tied us together, and now a month later, we cannot think of a life without each other. Life is so uncertain. I had never thought that I would be sleeping beside Ishan Kishan as his wife one day, and he would be softly holding my hands while sleeping.
You know what is the best thing about time is? That it changes.
Suddenly my eyes fell on the clock cum calendar hanging on the wall. 31/05/2024. So tomorrow is my birthday?
Birthdays have never been special for me. Every year on my birthday I was one way or the other reminded of how my birth was the biggest tragedy in their life. Maa tried her best to make the day special, and for her I tried my best to stay happy, or atleast look so.
But our pillow knows all the stories right!
Should have I told Ishan about my birthday?
I turned around softly not to wake him up. Ishan was sleeping with a calm and cute look on his face.
Isn't Ishan the best thing that had ever happened to me?
Isn't he the best birthday gift I could have ever had?
I softly ran my fingers through his hair and I don't know when I drifted off to sleep.
I was fast asleep when I felt someone patting my cheeks to wake me up. My bleared sleepy eyes recognised the person at once and I sat up in a jolt!
It was 12o clock as I looked at the watch. "Kya huya?", I asked panting for breath.
He softly smiled at me and held my hands.
"Happy Birthday Janhavi", he whispered into my ears before pulling me into a hug.
How does he know?
I hugged him back, resting my head over his chest. I could hear his heartbeat that had got elevated on hugging me. This was it. My safe space. Just mine.
After a few moments, that felt like eternity, he pulled back. He walked to the drawer and brought a beautiful envelope to me.
"Kya hai ismein?" I asked hastily out of curiosity.
He handed over the envelope to me, "Kholke dekhlo "
I took the envelope from him and slowly removed the cello tape so as to not tear it. Inside, were two papers.
