~Katara~
All Katara could see was Zuko jumping in front of the lightning that was close to attacking the waterbender, all she could hear was Azula's cruel laughter in the distance. He took the pain to save her, Katara was in shock. First she lost her mother, she absolutely couldn't lose Zuko, he meant so much to her. Healing him was her first priority, but Azula didn't approve in healing him.
Katara woke with a start, she was sweating and shivering. It'd been three days since Aang defeated Firelord Ozai, Azula was locked away along with her father, but the battle was haunting Katara's dreams. Everything confused her; Azula's actions, Zuko's protection, and her feelings towards him. Getting out of bed, Katara got dressed and walked out. It was midnight, and as soon as the sun came up Zuko's crowning of Firelord would begin. Katara had to figure out what was wrong with her, sort it out before she became more confused, before she did something she'd regret later. The gaang had been living in the palace to heal from their injuries, and Katara had been in Zuko's room everyday healing his wound thanking him countlessly for his actions to save her, but other than that they never really spoke. She told him he needed sleep mostly and that was it, she could pretend she wasn't confused and trying to sort out her feelings. Katara walked out of the palace and sat by the pond in the garden, she figured the water would soothe her thoughts.
Closing her eyes she saw darkness, and slowly starting bending the water around her to block out everything else. All she wanted was time to be alone and to think, but nothing made sense. How did she feel such strong emotions for Zuko? He betrayed her in Be Sing Se, yes she'd forgiven him, but things were still tense. They were good when it came to fighting together but never spoke. Why were things so weird, she always felt like it was because they didn't exactly know each other when it came down to it, so why did it suddenly feel like she knew him better then Aang? Why did she really want to hug him and stay by his side? Something on the inside told her that she'd always felt like that, ever since she was locked up with him in Be Sing Se, that seeing him actually open up to someone, to see Zuko for what he truly was inside. A boy trying to find what he'd lost long ago, to find where he truly belonged. Katara shock her head, unbelievable. There no way she could possibly, love Zuko, could she?
-Zuko-
Zuko stared out the window, he couldn't sleep everything was happening so fast. Later that day he would become Firelord in front of so many people, begin trying to wash away the sins of his family, and restore peace with Aang, its was stressful to even think about. Not to mention that Katara had been more quiet than normal aside from the thank yous. Zuko wanted to ask her what was wrong, confess his feeling towards the waterbender but he was actually scared of what she would do. Scared that it would ruin whatever friendship they began to have. Zuko had to face the facts, he could never have her and it was very likely she was in love with the avatar. He was one of those who could never get the girl, they were complete opposite. Zuko closes his eyes and remembered their first major fight back in the Northern Water Tribe where he'd said something that explained them perfectly.
"You rise with the moon, I rise with the sun." Zuko said it aloud, memories of how much of a jerk he was flood in. There were more important things he could of done instead of hunting the avatar, but then he'd have never met Katara, at the same time Zuko thought that never meeting her would have been best. Suddenly something caught his eye from outside the window, it was water, in the air. Either Aang or Katara, Zuko thought about going outside. If it was Katara she'd scold him for not sleeping, but who knows what Aang might be doing. After some thought Zuko decided to go outside, it couldn't be that bad, who knew maybe he'd actually be able to have someone he could talk to, about anything really.
Zuko began walking out, and he took a deep breath in the chilly air and was glad he brought his robe. Keeping his eye in the direction of the water Zuko found himself enjoying the air, even if it was colder than he'd like, probably because the castle was quite stuffy. Once he got to the pond he stood in awe to see Katara wrapped in a pool of water with her eyes closed, part of him didn't want to disturb her, but saw her eyes opening and the water found it way back into the pond. Once the water was gone Zuko's jaw dropped to see her in just a nightdress with her hair down falling around her shoulders, she was pure beauty. Zuko didn't want her to see him staring so he quickly came up with an idea.
"Katara what are you doing out here? Don't you know that when it's chilly you wear something to keep you warm," Zuko takes off his robe and gently drapes it around he shoulders as she sits at the edge of the pond. He sits down next to her and looks up at the moon.
"Zuko......um hi. Thank you." She pulls the robe around her tighter realizing how cold it truly was and how thin the dress was."Shouldn't you be in bed Zuko, I mean you've got a big day tomorrow and stuff."
"Couldn't sleep, to much on my mind." Zuko says blankly, "How about yourself?"
"I've been thinking, hey if you don't mind me asking what's on your mind?" Katara asks.
~Katara~
After so many years living in the south pole and even in her time in the north pole, Katara never quite got use to the cold, so she was shivering underneath Zuko's robe. She kept pulling it tighter to her, as if not being able to get warm at all.
"Becoming Firelord seems like alot of pressure, I mean I don't want to mess up at all." Zuko sighs and puts his arm around Katara pulling her close. "You lived in both the south and north poles, how are you cold?" Zuko laughs a bit.
"I don't like the cold unless I'm bending." Katara looks up at him and Zuko looks down at her. "Zuko........You can talk to me anytime if you need to...."
He leans in and kisses her without thinking about it, and pulls her closer. Katara pulled away real quick and looked into Zuko's eyes. "Sorry, I don't know what I was thinking." Zuko starts to stand up when Katara tugs him back down.
"Zuko, don't go just yet please."
