"You're early, very early." Max says as I sit at my desk.
"There wasn't any traffic this morning." I say.
"Really?" Max asks.
"Nope, and there's always traffic." I say.
"Hm." Max says.
"Something's wrong." I say.
"Less traffic is generally a good thing." Max says.
"No, it feels like nothing can go wrong." I say.
"Well what happened?" Max asks.
"I dunno, ever since I had dinner with Hailee's parents last night, nothing bad has happened to me." I say.
"Well, what happened that was new or different?" Max asks.
"Uh, Hailee told me she loved me." I say.
"I knew this was some Sleeping Beauty shit!" Max says.
"What?" I ask.
"Maybe her saying she loved you, broke the curse. Maybe if a relative declares their love for someone with Y/l/n DNA, the curse breaks!" Max says.
"I don't think the curse is broke." I say.
My phone rings and I take it out of my backpack. I see a call from mom and I answer it.
"Hey." I say.
"Hey, you'll never guess what just happened." Mom says.
"What?" I ask.
"I made breakfast without anything burning." Mom says.
"Seriously?" I ask.
"Yeah!" Mom says.
For as long as I can remember, anything my mom cooked would be burnt or would spill, forcing us to eat takeout. The fact that she made breakfast without anything going wrong, should speak for itself.
"Oh." I say.
"I'll let you go since you're at work. I just wanted to share that with you." Mom says.
"That's great. Uh, love you." I say.
"Love you too." Mom says.
I hang up and put my phone down.
"Maybe it is broken." I say.
Max smiles and nods.
Time Skip
"How'd work go?" Hailee asks as we sit on the couch.
"It went great, actually." I say.
"Oh, really?" Hailee asks.
"Yeah." I say.
"Weird..." Hailee says.
"Can I tell you something?" I ask.
"Of course." Hailee says.
"You remember when I told you that I got cursed by a witch in the 90s?" I ask.
"Yeah." Hailee says.
"That witch was your aunt." I say.
"What?" She asks.
"When my dad ended things with aunt, she cursed him. She said, I'll curse you and every no-good Y/l/n that'll ever live - anything that can go wrong, will." I say.
"That's when things started going wrong for my dad." I say.
"You think my aunt, Josephine, jinxed you?" She asks.
"Yes, but ever since you told me that you loved me, things have been so different. It's like the curse was broken." I say.
"I can't tell if you're being serious or not. You think my aunt is a witch?" She says.
"Does she have a pointy noise and a magic broom?" I ask.
She laughs and I smile.
"Well, this sucks." She says.
"What sucks?" I ask.
"Part of the reason I fell in love with you was because you were such a klutz and I thought it was cute. Like, I was just waiting for the moment that we have sex for the first time, and you end up kneeing me in the face or something." Hailee says.
I laugh and Hailee smiles.
"You can always take it back, say you don't love me." I say.
"I would never do that." Hailee says.
I smile and she kisses me.
Time Skip
"I'm sorry." I say.
"It's fine." Hailee says.
I lift the ice pack off Hailee's face and I widen my eyes.
"How bad is it?" Hailee asks.
I gently press the ice pack back down and we both laugh.
"I guess you don't need a curse to have sex with me and knee me in the face." Hailee says.
"I swear I caught a cramp in my leg and I-" I say.
Hailee squints and we both start laughing.
"All bitches do is lie!" Hailee says.
"I'm not lying!" I say.
"Oh, yes, you are." Hailee says.
"Do you think I purposely kneed you in the face?" I ask.
"Yes." She says.
"Why would I purposely harm you?" I ask.
"I dunno, some people do it just to do it." She says.
"Well, I'm not those people. I will never intentionally hurt you." I say.
She smiles and kisses me.
"I love you." I say.
"I love you too." She says.
I smile and we stare at each other.
"You wanna finish?" She asks rubbing my thigh.
"I'd rather sit here and take care of you." I say.
"Boo!" She says.
I laugh and she smiles. I kiss her cheek and she rests her head on my shoulder.
