Barbara and Virgil are now inside of the Batcave. Barbara in her chair, explain about Jonathan Crane. She takes a deep breath before she even begins to speak about him and his story.
"Crane has a really traumatic childhood life. His grandmother abused him when was a kid and he was even bullied a lot in school... One day, it was senior year... Crane was humiliated by this one kid who was a bully, the bully name was Bo Griggs. Then, there was this cheerleader he was trying to get with. Her name was Sherry Squires. Tried to ask her out, but Crane gets rejected. So, that's when Crane takes revenge during the senior prom..." Barbara stops for a second, taking off her glasses before looking at Virgil again.
"A revenge at a senior school prom. Like... Did--" He tries to ask a question, but he sees the serious look on Barbara's face.
"Crane takes revenge by donning his costume... a Scarecrow costume. And then brandishing a gun in the parking lot. In the ensuing chaos, Griggs got into a car accident, paralysing himself and then killing Squires." Her voice shudders for a moment.
Virgil looks down for a second and then rubs his forehead."And that's how Scarecrow is born at that night." He saids in a low voice.
"Crane has an obsession with fear. And his obsession has led him to be a psychologist at the Arkham Asylum. He also performed fear-inducting experiments on his patients. Not only that, he's a professor of psychology at the Gotham University." Barbara explained to Virgil about Crane's career as a psychologist and professor.
Virgil starts to remember about the Gotham University story that he read and studied awhile ago. "Professor? Wait, you're talking that time when Crane lost his job after he fired a gun inside a packed classroom, accidentally wounded a student?" He asked as he gets the story together.
She nods her head slowly. "Yeah, that's right." She then answered.
"After that, Crane takes revenge by killing the professors who are responsible for his termination. So, that's how he became a criminal he is now... Scarecrow." He sits back on the wall, was in shocked. "Yeah, I done my research about that day." He starts to feel disbelief.
She just stares at Virgil and knows that they got the story added together about Crane's history.
"And Batman has dealt with Scarecrow many times. I remembered that night when... When Bruce was hallucinating from that gas, all he saw was bats. Afraid of bats when he was a kid, the night his parents were killed. He was scared and terrified... Both at once." She stops for a second and just stares at her own laptop.
Virgil just looks down for a minute when Barbara talks about Bruce's fear. "It's like his fear has come back to him, was it?" He starts to guess.
She closes her eyes and nods to Virgil. "Yeah... That's exactly what it was." She sighed.
"So, where should we start? How should we be able to catch Scarecrow?" He asked.
"We should start by meeting Commissioner Gordon, see if he got anything. About Scarecrow's latest crime." She answered and got up from her chair.
He followed Virgil and grabbed his backpack that had his suit inside.
