Sanemi sat on the engawa, watching his crow peck at the food he'd scattered. The early morning light cast long shadows across the garden, and a gentle breeze rustled the leaves. Y/n was still asleep inside, her steady breathing a comforting reminder of her presence. He let her rest, knowing she needed the sleep after everything thatad happened.

His mind couldn't stop replaying the events of last night. He could still see the scar she had shown him, a painful reminder etched into her skin. He understood now why she had been so hesitant to reveal it - he was known for his relentless worrying.

But who wouldn't be concerned?

The wound she had suffered was severe, leaving a jagged scar that would serve as a constant reminder of that terrible day. For her, it might become a symbol of her resilience and strength, a mark of survival. For Sanemi, it was a bitter reminder of his absence, of the moment he couldn't protect her and nearly lost both her and their unborn child.

He clenched his fists, the weight of his failure pressing heavily on his heart. The memory of her pale, blood-streaked face haunted him. He had vowed to protect her and their child, yet in that critical moment, he had been powerless. The scar was a stark testament to his shortcomings, a cruel reminder that even the strongest could falter.

Sanemi's thoughts were interrupted by a soft rustle from inside. Y/n stirred, her eyes fluttering open. He turned to look at her, a mixture of love and guilt in his eyes. She smiled weakly, sensing his turmoil.

"Sanemi," she whispered, reaching out to him. He took her hand, holding it tightly, as if afraid to let go.

"I'm sorry," he murmured, his voice heavy with emotion. "I'm so sorry."

Y/n squeezed his hand gently, her touch reassuring. "It wasn't your fault," she said softly. "We're here now, and that's what matters."

He nodded, but the guilt remained. He knew it would take time for both of them to heal, not just from the physical wounds, but from the emotional scars as well. For now, all he could do was hold her close and promise himself that he would never let her face such danger alone again.

"Y/n, have you given any more thought to what I asked you?" Sanemi's voice was laden with worry, tinged with a desperation he couldn't quite hide. He needed her to leave the corps, to ensure the safety of the last precious jewel of his world.

Y/n sighed softly, her hand reaching to touch his. "Sanemi, I can't bring myself to quit the corps. It's a part of who I am," she began, her voice steady but gentle. "But for now, until the baby arrives and for some time after that, I will take a rest."

Sanemi's eyes twitched and Y/n unnoticed an unknown emotion in them. It felt like Sanemi didn't like her choice, he clenched his teeth before slamming his hand on the wooden floor, causing the girl as well as the crow to flinch at his action. As she sat up, the blanket that had been wrapped around her slipped down to her lap. Her resolve was evident, but Sanemi's heart clenched.
