Simmering in a heavy and emotional silence, Lucius finally speaks up "No.. No we can't do this, we can't break this easily Narcissa.." he says as he grips his fists at his sides, turning towards her with a determined look. Gazing at him as she finishes off her drink, Narcissa sighs deeply "You can't change what has already been done Lucius.. we're falling apart and no amount of mending can fix that.." she says as she sets the glass down before turning towards the fire. With a hesitant step, Lucius approaches her "Lucius, don't-" she says but before she can protest any further, she is held from behind in a gentle embrace. Letting out a sigh Lucius wraps his arms around her loosely "I care for you... deeply Narcissa.. I always have.. and I know we don't love one another like we used to.. but something deep within me still wants to try.." he says softly, brushing back some of her hair from her neck, pressing a gentle kiss on her skin. Letting out a soft shutter from the kiss, Narcissa closes her eyes briefly "But what if I don't.." she says as she steps out of his embrace to face him.
Looking at her with longing, disheartened eyes Lucius steps closer once again "Not even for our son?..." he asks in a soft whisper, as if it were a silent plea. Hearing his words, never seeing Lucius so desperate, Narcissa comes close, taking his hand into her own. "I will do anything for him..." nodding Lucius smiles a rueful smile "As would I, my love.." he says as he tucks a stray strand of hair behind her ear before pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "Now why don't we treat ourselves to a nice evening together.. like we used to" he says as he pulls Narcissa in close by her waist, kissing the top of her hand with a soft grin.
Meanwhile, standing alongside a windy cliff overlooking the darkened ocean, Severus stands a few feet from the edge as he contemplates. Taking in a deep breath and letting it out slowly, Severus keeps his hands tucked into his pockets as his eyes remain closed, his mind elsewhere rather than in the present. Feeling his mind transport back to a place he can never forget, Severus opens his eyes, seeing the place he never wishes to revisit- 21st Church Street, in Godric's Hallow. But, this visit within his mind palace isn't like before, something feels.. different. Taking another deep breath in and out, Severus approaches the door but before he can turn the knob, something beckons him elsewhere. Turning to his left, Severus is lured by a soft, white light, emanating a warmth that draws him closer. Hesitating to let go of the cool brass handle of the cottage, Severus lets his hand fall to his side as he slowly approaches the light. As he inches closer, he shields his eyes from the brightness, seeing a familiar face within the light before it consumes him, startling him out of his slumber.
Sitting up abruptly from his hardened sleep, Severus brushes some hair from his face that is stuck to his sweaty skin. Gathering his surroundings, Severus's gaze glides across the dim room, full of trinkets and plenty of other items his holds dear. Sliding out of bed and into a silk robe, he decides to step outside and cool off. Standing out on the small balcony that connects to his living quarters, Severus gazes out at the darkened grounds of Hogwarts below. Stepping out to the railing, Severus feels the all too familiar breeze that comforts him within the night hours, knowing he's spent plenty of them out on this very balcony. "You have become the light that weaves its way into my darkness.. the beckoned call of your touch, your voice and your comfort are all too hard to resist.. and now, you're all that I want... and more" he murmurs to himself poetically as he recalls the face he saw within the light of his nightmare. "To think, at some time, there was only one person who could do such a thing.. and even then, she could not pry me away from it all.. but you.." he says as he looks down at a cravat he managed to tuck away since their last visit. "You have managed to take my heart in full.. and to have someone, especially someone like you, having my heart within your grasp.. is terrifying.."
