Hadley’s POV

The air around us shimmered as Red's pocket watch activated, transporting us through time. A sense of urgency filled me, mingled with the nervous excitement of uncovering our past.

We landed with a soft thud in a familiar yet different place—our childhood home. The house looked newer, more alive. I took a deep breath and nodded at Elaine, Harley, and Gavin.

“This is it,” I whispered, holding the watch tightly. “Let’s find out what happened.”

Harley looked around, her eyes wide. “It’s so strange seeing it like this.”

“Focus,” Gavin said, though his voice was kind. “We need to stay hidden and find the right moment.”

We crept through the house, careful to avoid making any noise. As we approached the living room, we heard voices—our parents’.

Maleficent’s POV

“Why can’t you understand, Hades?” I snapped, my patience worn thin. “This is the best for our children.”

Hades glared at me, his eyes blazing. “Separating them isn’t the answer, Maleficent! They need both of us.”

“They need stability,” I countered. “And right now, you can’t provide that.”

The room grew tense, our arguments a stark contrast to the calm exterior of our home. I glanced at our newborn twins, Hadley and Harley, sleeping peacefully in their crib. Mal, barely three and a half, was playing with her toys, oblivious to the storm brewing around her.

Hadley’s POV

We watched in silence, hearts heavy. I had never seen our parents like this—so full of anger and pain.

Elaine’s hand tightened around mine. “This must be it,” she murmured. “The beginning of the end.”

Hades stepped closer to Maleficent, his voice dropping. “You’re pushing me away, Maleficent. You’re letting this place change you.”

“This place gave me power,” she retorted. “And I’ll use it to protect our children.”

I glanced at Harley, seeing my own confusion mirrored in her eyes. “Why did they drift apart?” she whispered.

Hades’ POV

“I can’t watch you become something you’re not,” I said, my voice breaking. “I can’t let our children be caught in the crossfire of your ambition.”

Maleficent’s expression hardened. “Then maybe it’s best if you leave.”

The weight of her words hit me like a blow. “You can’t mean that,” I pleaded.

She turned away, her shoulders tense. “Take the twins, Hades. They’ll be safer with you.”

I looked at Mal, our little girl who would soon be without her mother’s daily presence. “And Mal?” I asked, my heart aching.

“She stays with me,” Maleficent said firmly. “She needs to learn to control her power, and I’m the only one who can teach her.”

Hadley’s POV

Tears stung my eyes as I watched my parents’ final exchange. Hades gathered the twins, his face a mask of pain and resignation. Maleficent stood tall, her expression unreadable.

“They both thought they were doing what was best,” Elaine said softly.

“But it tore us apart,” Harley added, her voice barely above a whisper.

Gavin stepped forward, his face grim. “We need to understand what happened at Merlin Academy. That’s where everything changed for Maleficent.”

We nodded, determination steeling our resolve. Using the pocket watch, we transported ourselves to Merlin Academy, years before we were students there.

Elaine’s POV

The academy buzzed with energy, a far cry from the darker place we knew. We slipped through the halls, searching for any clues. It wasn’t long before we heard familiar voices.

Maleficent stood with a group of students, her presence commanding. “Magic is a tool,” she was saying. “And we must use it to shape our destiny.”

A younger Hades watched from a distance, concern etched on his face. We moved closer, straining to hear.

“Maleficent, you’re pushing too hard,” Hades said, stepping forward. “Magic should be used responsibly.”

She turned to him, eyes flashing. “Responsibility? Or fear?”

Their argument drew the attention of other students, whispers spreading. The tension was palpable, and it became clear that this was the beginning of Maleficent’s descent into darkness.

Hadley’s POV

We followed them through the academy, witnessing the slow unraveling of their relationship. Maleficent’s thirst for power grew, and Hades’ attempts to pull her back only pushed them further apart.

One night, we saw the final straw. A powerful spell gone wrong, leaving a student injured. Maleficent was expelled, and Hades was left to pick up the pieces.

“This is it,” Harley said, her voice trembling. “This is where it all started.”

We watched as Hades confronted Maleficent one last time. “You’ve changed,” he said, his voice heavy with sorrow. “And it’s tearing us apart.”

“I did what I had to,” Maleficent replied, her eyes cold. “For our children.”

Gavin’s POV

We stood in silence, the weight of our parents’ choices pressing down on us. They had both loved us in their own ways, but their paths had diverged too far.

Harley looked at me, her eyes filled with determination. “We need to help them. Maybe if we can change things here, we can fix everything.”

I nodded, a plan forming in my mind. “We need to find a way to show them the consequences of their actions. Maybe then they’ll see what’s really important.”

Together, we devised a plan to intervene, hoping to change the course of our parents’ fate. We set to work, determined to save our family.
