May's POV
( The next day: On the Air)
Charlamagne Tha God: What's up! This is the Breakfast Club on 105.1 FM! This is Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy...
DJ Envy: What's good?
Charlamagne Tha God: Angela Lee..
Angela Lee: Heyy..
Charlamagne Tha God: and the one and only May.. The newest and hottest revolutionary artist of this generation.
May: (Leans towards the Mic) I wouldn't say all that...
Angela Lee: Modest as well..
DJ Envy: May, your album was fire. It was number one on iTunes for about 3-4 months. How does it feel to have your FIRST album do so well when some of these artists get that kind of success 4-5 albums deep.
May: It's a blessing. I think people wanted something different to listen too. I mean sometimes when I turn on the radio.. I hear the same concepts and lyrics, but it comes with different beats with different names attached to them. I feel that we needed diversity and I guess I wasn't the only one.
Angela Lee: I agree, when I listen to your album. I must say it is very different. It's refreshing.
May: Thank you.
Charlamagne Tha God: I'm not going to lie, when I first saw you with Kendrick Lamar and I heard that you were going to be a female artist, I didn't think you were going to be as huge as you are now.
Angela Lee: Wooow...
Charlamagne Tha God: Wait wait wait, let me finish. It's because you're a natural artist. You don't wear like a ton of makeup, you don't rap about sex, you don't act the part of Hip-Hop artists that are out now. That's why when I heard what you were about .. I was like, she isn't going to do well in sells.
DJ Envy: Proved you wrong.
May: (Laughs a little)...
Charlamagne Tha God: Yup, but I'm happy that you did sell well because the way you are. You're right, we need more of the good in Hip-Hop rather than more of the bad.
May: Thank you.
Angela Lee: I heard that you're going to be working with J. Cole... How is that going?
May: We haven't started like making music or anything like that... We are just getting to know each other for our tour in the future. On that note, he's really cool. He's very flirty! It gets on my nerves and he knows it. Besides that, he's really smart. He's easy to hang around and talk to. I think we might end up being really good friends.
DJ Envy: That's good.
Charlamagne Tha God: I know this is random, but what do you think about Nicki Minaj?
May: When it comes to Hip-Hop, people think of it as a competition. I have never been that type. People kind of want me to be like... "Oh Nicki I'm coming after you" or something like that, but I don't understand why that is necessary. I see Nicki Minaj as a sister in the music business and I will always support her. Point, blank, period.
Angela Lee: That's right. You know people over-do the beefs and stuff, I think thats way overrated.
May: Right.
Charlamagne Tha God: I bet you knew I was going to ask you about this, so I might as well get it out. The thing with Kendrick Lamar and his fiance. Social medias everywhere are going off saying that Kendrick Lamar went from rapping about Dark-skinned girls and ended up with.. A girl that almost looks white. Being his best friend, you had to know what was going on. What do you have to say about that.
