Golden Rings
1947
The sun was beginning to set, casting a golden hue over the field that stretched out before their home. The lake shimmered like a mirror, reflecting the sky's changing colours.
Rosalie stood at the edge of the field, a vision in white. Her dress flowed around her like a cloud, the delicate lace trailing behind her as she moved. The veil rested gently on her shoulders, framing her face and the soft, expectant curve of her stomach, now three months pregnant.
As she walked toward him, Tom felt his heart swell with an emotion he had never known he could feel. She looked like an angel, ethereal and radiant, and he couldn't tear his eyes away from her.
Their eyes locked, and they couldn't stop smiling. Every step Rosalie took brought her closer to the man who had changed her life, and with each step, Tom's belief in the strength of love grew stronger. They met in the middle of the field, the only witnesses to their union being the trees and the sky above them.
Tom took her hands in his, feeling the warmth and the connection that had bound them together from the very start. His voice was steady, filled with a reverence that came from the depths of his soul.
"I, Tom Marvolo Riddle, take you, Rosalie Grindelwald, to be my wife. I promise to be faithful to you, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health, to love and to honour you all the days of my life."
Rosalie's eyes glistened with tears of joy as she echoed his words.
"I, Rosalie Grindelwald, take you, Tom Marvolo Riddle, to be my husband. I promise to be faithful to you, in good times and bad, in sickness and in health, to love and to honour you all the days of my life."
Tom reached into his pocket, taking out the, golden bands that symbolised the unbreakable bond they shared. Rosalie's ring slid perfectly next to her engagement ring, proof of the long journey they had to make just to get to this moment.
Rosalie took Tom's ring, taking his hand and sliding his on his finger, her heart beating at the sudden realisation that he was becoming hers as much as she was becoming his. Her hands caressed the ring, and she felt her chin quiver.
Tom took her face in his hand and calmed her, his eyebrows furrowed as he looked down at her face, shaped perfectly to fit in his hands, the greyness of her eyes sparkling under the light that the sky so gracefully poured down on them. She glowed, her skin warm, real, and suddenly this wasn't a dream. It was his reality.
Rosie looked at Tom, her heart so full she could barely believe it was real. She was here, with him, pledging herself to the man she loved, for the rest of her life.
They stood alone in the field, but they knew they were not alone in life when they had each other. Their marriage was a pledge to each other, a vow that transcended the need for an audience. Tom looked deeply into the abyss of Rosalie's eyes, so easily lost in them, his voice soft and filled with emotion.
"Rosalie, I never believed that love could be a strength until you showed me otherwise. You taught me that there is room in my life to love and be loved. I will bow at your feet every day for the strength you give me. I have a stronger will to live and a stronger will to protect because of you. I couldn't have done that without having you as mine. You were made to be mine."
He breathed, his eyes locked on her with a look of disbelief and wonder. She was so breathtakingly beautiful that he could scarcely comprehend it. Every fibre of his being ached to hold her, to kiss her, to touch her, so that even when he closed his eyes, the only sensation he would know was her.
