KNOCK
KNOCK
KNOCK

A knock came from Marcus' room as said resident laid in the bed, even though he was twenty minutes late to school.

"Marcus... you've been in there ever since you got dispatched from the hospital. Lynn's worried about you..."

Marcus continued to stare at his wall, the bland white color was all he wanted to get familiar with these days.

...

Nathan eventually opened the door, his mother and father behind him.

"Hey brother..." Nathan said.

...

Silence came from Marcus.

"Look, I know your coma had you miss the funeral... but surprisingly, everyone at school heard about the raid, and are cheering for victory. I know it may not seem like a victory to you but--"

"It became a victory when we rescued Auntie from that cell..."

Marcus's tired yet stern voice cut Nathan off.

"It became a victory when she and Uncle reunited..."

...

"It became a failure when she died on that wooden floor. I may have gotten my vengeance... but what was the point...?"

Marcus sat up on his bed and looked at his family.

"How can I celebrate when there's more like him and more victims like Auntie...?"

...

...

...

"My job was finished... yet I feel as though I did it wrong... I could've saved her. I should've watched the surroundings more... it should've been me..."

...

...

...

Nathan came up to him and held his shoulder.

"You know damn well she wouldn't like that. She may have died a victim... but she's looking down at you with a smile on her face for dealing with her killer..."

Marcus sadly looked at Nathan, his fists slowly uncuffing.

"Rally liked you like her own son dude. She even went out to say you were her favorite out of us two. She saw potential in you when you were younger, and now, she knows she was right believing in you..."

...

"Go to her grave and talk to her dude, then, go to school," Nathan told him.

...

"And you?" Marcus asked, now that their vendetta was finished.

"I put in an application to be an officer of the law under Collin's recommendation. I should be getting my badge next week."
