Ellis lived as a alive memory of her grandmother. A surgical junky. She had a total obsession with it. But her mother never let her lose the sense of being human, which she's grateful for. She loved surgery but she still was a person with feelings, that care about other humans. She still could remember a conversation with her mom: "mom why I do need to have a boyfriend or friends if I can have surgery instead? Surgery will never leave me or die" Ellis said when she was about 10 years old and her mother responded: "well honey it's your choice. But let's say that surgery it's not going to fill you. You are a human. You need to have your friends and a intelligent surgical junky husband. That life may take them away? Yes of course. But you can live the precious memories and move on and make new friends. And plus, you need a man to have your own little surgical junky. You think I will be this happy without you, Zola, Bailey, your dad, aunt Cristina, uncle Alex and all our family? I love you my little Elli but I will never let you forget that you are a human that cares about people and has emotions". Ellis was moved by the words and for the rest of her life she loved to remember her human sense. Her sister Zola was great for it. Ellis may have a gpa of 4.8 and master all the instruments, but her sister Zola build houses for the poor and was a volunteer for the woman's shelter. Zola often say to her: "Elli, being a good person is the master of the world. You can change someone's life and the life that you change can change the world. For example, mom and dad adopt and they were good people, amazing people in fact. They change my life and for that opportunity that they give I am going to change the world". Ellis loved chatting with her older sister because they were so different they compliment each other. But part of her humanity couldn't grow because the lack of a parent. She miss her dad. But how can you miss someone that you never met?. Ellis didn't cry, not even in an argument. She was strong. But when she kept wondering how could her life with her dad could have gone it just shatters her hear. She was often jealous of Zola and Bailey because he knew them and loved them. But she never loved her. What if he didn't love her? But her mother always said that he would have been proud of her. She went to Stanford university with her best friend in the whole world Lily. They were the twisted sisters 2.0. It was funny how they were exactly as Meredith and Cristina. Those two were inseparable. When she was in med school, her eyes already point at Cleveland Clinic, her mother developed Alzheimer's. Lily convinced her that dropping out of med school was a bad idea. So she finished all med school and went directly to Grey Sloan. Lily being her person also came. Ellis secret keeper was her aunt Cristina. She always said: "the only one of the Shepherd children that isn't my godchild is you Elli, but we are so alike" and it's true. Ellis always had this impression that her aunt Cristina tried to have a life only sustained by surgery but it didn't make her happy. She was her favorite aunt always showing her new procedures. She and Lily were the first ones to see the artificial heart. She developed a weird bond with cardio and Cristina was more than happy to train her. Being Cristina her favorite and mentor, she was especially heart broken when she got into the accident. Lily said to her that one night she and Owen were fighting, but she got so angry that she got into her motorcycle. She got in an accident and a very bad spine injury leaving her paralyze from the waist down. She was extremely sad that her mentor had to join her mother doing only administrative work. But now she was doing great with her aunt Maggie.
Her love life wasn't much. She didn't ever focus about it. But it was something in Mark that look that he liked her. He was a man whore. And like a big brother to her. But he was kind and a good student. So Ellis being the independent woman she is, she asked him on a date. It was a lovely date. But she really wanted to now how much he really like her. So she left him waiting. So as the second date and the third date and the fourth date she never let him even touch her ass. But by the fifth date even herself couldn't resist
