AIAH'S POV

I woke up to the sound of the waves. The morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, casting a gentle warmth across the room. I stretched my body, ready to face a new day.

I reached for my phone on the bedside table to check the time.

Oh no! Oh no! It's already 6:30 a.m. I'm late for the surfing lesson!!!

I washed my face, brushed my teeth and changed my clothes. I put on some sunscreen at kumaripas na ng takbo papuntang beachfront. I think I did all of that in less than 10 minutes. Whoo!

I saw them surfing na. Gosh, I hate that I'm late.

I saw a big umbrella at katabi nun may dalawang surfboard and deckchairs. I walked towards that direction. I bet this is where the girls left their things.

Papasok pa lang ako sa silong ng umbrella may umabot na ng coffee sa akin. Someone na nakaupo sa deckchair.

I took the coffee. "Thank you." It was Mikha. Siya na lang natira dito.

"Good morning." She greeted me coldly. She's wearing her shades.

"Good morning. Sorry, I was late." I sat on the deckchair beside her.

"It's okay. Kumusta pakiramdam mo?" I don't know why but this feels awkward.

"Uhm, I'm okay na. You can join the girls. I'll finish my coffee lang." I suggested. This is the only way out from this awkwardness that I could think of.

"No, hinintay kita. I'll teach you how to surf." Did I hear it correctly? She'll teach me how to surf?

"You can take your time. Crowded pa naman yung dagat." She said while still staring at girls.

I heard them screamed my name, "Ate Aiah!"

I looked at their direction and waved my hand towards them to greet them back.
Jho caught my attention. She's riding her surfboard for a good 5 seconds and she fell. Nakakatawa yung expression niya bago siya mahulog. I burst out laughing.

I sipped my coffee and laughed for the entire 15 minutes. I felt relaxed and positive.

What a great way to start my day.

MIKHA'S POV

Aiah was laughing so hard watching the other girls surf for the first time.

I find myself stealing glances at her. Her laugh hasn't changed. Not one bit.

Hearing her laugh again for the first time somehow made me smile.

It's like finding a song I used to love, and I feel excited to hear it again.

It's the laugh I didn't realize I had missed.

Hindi ko alam kung ano nangyari sa kanya sa loob ng tatlong taon. Pero wala akong ibang hiniling sa mga tala kundi ang palayain siya sa lahat ng sakit na naidulot ko.
