Adelaide found herself sat at the bar downing shot after shot, she'd lost count on how many shots she has actually had. Beatrice and Jo had were both running late due to surgeries so Adelaide was just drinking alone especially after having an argument with Derek about her not wanting to see Connor.
"Another please Joe" Adelaide said leaning on her elbows.
"I don't think you should. You've been knocking them back for the last hour?" Joe said worried about the brunette woman sat on the barstool, he sensed she wasn't okay but he also knew she didn't want to talk.
"Just give me the drink. I'm fine" Adelaide said although she wasn't sure she was.
"Adelaide, can we talk?" Adelaide heard Meredith say behind her.
"If this is about me going to meet Connor then no, If it's about the argument I had with Derek, once again no. I just want to drink! That's all" Adelaide said stubbornly to her sister-in-law who was also stubborn just like her.
"Derek only asked me to check on you. How about we go outside and talk where it's quiet." Meredith suggested causing Adelaide to roll her eyes.
"You're not going to leave me alone if I don't, are you" Adelaide questioned Meredith who nodded so with a sigh Adelaide stood up and followed Meredith outside.
"How are you truthfully" Meredith asked Adelaide once they were outside
"I'm fine, Meredith. I just don't get why everyone is so obsessed with me and Connor. Yes I gave birth to him but I'm not his Mom, I never was his mom. I don't know why he showed up out of the blue. Now you can go and tell Derek that and make sure he knows that I'm not going to talk to him until he stops going on at me. Now I'm going back inside and having another drink" Adelaide said turning on her heels and heading back inside.
"Want to talk about whatever is going on?" Joe asked causing Adelaide to shake her head simply, she didn't want to talk; she just wanted to drink.
"Just another drink please, I've had enough of talking" Adelaide sighed, Joe nodded and got her another drink just as Jo and Beatrice entered the bar.
"We're so sorry we're late" the two women said simultaneously to which Adelaide nodded simply not looking up from her drink.
"She's been knocking them back for the last hour." Adelaide heard Joe tell her two best friends.
Adelaide, Jo and Beatrice had been dancing and singing happily to random songs that came through the speakers. It was safe to say Adelaide was absolutely hammered, Jo and Beatrice were getting close too.
"I best get going." Beatrice informed the two women who both understood that Beatrice was on early tomorrow while Adelaide and Jo weren't back to work until the next night. Adelaide said her goodbyes to her friend then headed to the toilets. She did her business and washed her hands only to stand staring into the mirror for what felt like forever. She couldn't stop thinking about how much of a screw up she was, that's what her family thought, everyone apart from Amelia that is. The young woman hadn't realised she had been a long time until Jo entered the toilets and asked her if she was okay which it was obvious that she wasn't but Jo still asked.
Adelaide was spiralling down a dark tunnel which has started with her binge drinking, she remembered the first time she went down this route, Amelia had found her passed out in the garden with a empty bottle of vodka beside her; she ended up needing her stomach pumped and an weeks stay in hospital, Adelaide knew she could end up the same way, she almost had done numerous of times but she always kept her drinking at bay when she was working.
It was clear Adelaide wasn't thinking straight because she turned around and kissed Jo, neither woman pulled apart, not straight away anyway, when she finally realised what she had done Adelaide pulled apart and practically sprinted from the toilets and out of the bar. She was sure she'd just ruined her friendship with Jo but if that was the case then why did Jo kiss her back, thousands of questions spiralled around her head but she ignored them as she ran down the street out of view from the bar and Jo. Once she knew she was safe from Jo following her Adelaide called a cab and took it home where she immediately booked a flight to L.A to her sister. She was desperate for help and a break from everything that had happened. She was doing what she did best... running away.
Jo's POV
It all happened so fast... Adelaide was crying in the toilets, she said she wouldn't be to long so I had went to check on her and we kissed. Of course it was a surprise but it was nice, I had wanted to do that for months now, I imagined her soft lips on mine, how she felt. Adelaide was the one I wanted, she made me feel things I don't think I've ever felt before and I didn't think she would feel the same this showed she does, or was she just so drunk that she wasn't thinking straight? But then she ran off, did she think she'd done something wrong? I followed her but lost her outside.
Third Person
Adelaide packed her suitcase and went to bed, her flight was at 9am so if she went to sleep right now she would get at least 6 hours sleep before she has to wake up to get ready to be at the airport on time.
Maybe running away from her mistakes was what Adelaide was good at but what if she actually thought she had screwed everything up with Jo, she was one of her best friends and she went and kissed her, she liked it but what if Jo didn't? She hated herself for the fact she had probably lost one of her best friends.
