KATIE AND I SAT IN HER CAR, waiting for Lamine to finish whatever he was up to. I didn't feel like standing around, especially with the fans acting like maniacs, doing anything to catch the players' attention.

Don't get me wrong, I totally understand why they're obsessed with Hector—I mean, the guy's a model—but that didn't give her an excuse to be rude about it.

I did appreciate Hector stepping in, but if I'm honest, I wouldn't really call it "defending" me. He just did the bare minimum, and that's not exactly a reason to be impressed.

"Are you excited?" Katie asked, effortlessly applying her lip gloss, like she'd done it a thousand times before.

"Excited? Excited for what?" I asked, glancing out the window and then back at her.

"Excited to hang out with Lamine's friends," she replied, popping the lip gloss into the glove compartment. "Or, excited to eat?"

I giggled, shaking my head. "You're funny. But honestly, now that you ask, it's got me thinking."

Katie raised an eyebrow. "Thinking about what?"

"I don't know, but at least the ones I've met are nice," I said casually, trying to brush it off.

Katie gave me a confused look. "What are you talking about? You've only met one."

I froze, realizing I hadn't told her about the whole Hector situation. I hadn't meant to keep it from her, but it just slipped my mind. I mean, it wasn't that big of a deal... or was it?

I cleared my throat. "Oh, right. I guess I forgot to mention... Hector."

"Hector!? The one who was staring at you with Marc?" Katie said, poking me playfully. "And don't think I didn't notice the way you and Marc were looking at each other."

I couldn't help but laugh, gently pushing her hand back to her lap. "Listen, I just learned Hector's name because of his crazy fans. Oh, and did I mention some of them were rude too?"

Katie's eyes widened. "Rude? What happened?"

I sighed, leaning back. "One of them shoved me just to get closer to him. Hector stepped in, but barely—it wasn't exactly a hero moment."

Katie nodded, but just as she was about to say something, her gaze shifted out the window, a smile spreading across her face. I shot her a confused look, wondering what she was smiling at.

I turned to see what she was looking at—and then Lamine popped up, screaming at the top of his lungs, causing me to flinch so hard I nearly jumped out of my seat. He burst into laughter, clearly enjoying himself, then glanced away like he was with someone.
