KATIE AND I stood silently in front of Lamine's house, straining to catch any sound from inside, but all we were met with was quiet. Honestly, I had expected the guys to be louder, and I could tell Katie felt the same. The stillness didn't sit right with either of us—it was too unusual, almost unnatural for Lamine and his friends.

"What do you think they're doing?" Katie asked, her brow furrowing in curiosity.

I shrugged. "I don't know."

Katie mirrored my gesture, her shoulders lifting in resignation. After a moment's pause, she stepped forward and knocked on the door, the sound echoing in the stillness. We exchanged anxious glances, waiting for a response that felt like it would never come.

The door swung open to reveal Lamine, but there was no smile on his face. Before I could say anything, he abruptly shut the door in front of us.

"Did he just... shut the door?" I asked, disbelief creeping into my voice.

Katie shook her head, her expression a mix of confusion and concern. "Yeah, he did. What was that about?"

We stood there, unsure of what to do next, the unsettling silence returning.

Lamine opened the door again, this time smiling, but his expression faded when he saw the concern on our faces. "I was joking, chill," he said, trying to lighten the mood.

Ignoring him, I brushed past him, stepping into his house. Katie followed closely behind, her eyes darting around the dimly lit room, searching for any signs of what might have caused the earlier silence.

"Why is it so quiet in here?" Katie asked, setting her purse down on the dining table.

"Keyne is sleeping," Lamine replied, closing the front door behind us. "I had to put him to bed because he was out cold on my bedroom floor, and the guys were being loud."

Katie raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Loud how?"

"Bitch, I don't know," Lamine said with a laugh, clearly amused by his own choice of words.

I rolled my eyes but couldn't help smirking at his playful attitude as I followed him. He led us through the narrow hallway, and I could hear faint murmurs coming from the living room.

"Let's see what the guys are up to," he said, his voice dropping to a whisper as we approached the door. Katie and I exchanged looks, both of us curious and a little apprehensive about what we might find.

I put my hand to my mouth, stifling a laugh, and Katie did the same, but we quickly managed to regain our composure.

Just before Lamine opened the door, he heard us and turned his head, a confused expression crossing his face. "What's so funny?"
