I WOKE UP TO the sound of my phone ringing loudly in my ear. I had fallen asleep with it right beside my head—definitely not something you should do.

Groggy and disoriented, I fumbled for the phone, my fingers clumsily swiping across the screen as I tried to silence the blaring ringtone. My eyes squinted against the brightness of the screen, struggling to adjust.

With a sigh, I answered, my voice still thick with sleep. "Hello?"

There was a pause on the other end, followed by a familiar voice. "Sofia? Why are you asleep at this time? It's the afternoon. I swear you were just awake like 30 minutes ago. How do you even fall asleep that fast?"

Still half-asleep and disoriented, I rubbed my eyes and tried to make sense of her barrage of questions. My brain felt foggy, and all I could manage was a groggy, "What?"

She sighed dramatically on the other end. "You just texted me, and now you're sleeping? What's going on?"

I sat up, my head still spinning. "I mean, you tell me. You're the one calling me."

"Whatever," Katie dismissed with a huff. "Anyway, remember how Lamine wanted us to come over to his place?"

I could hear the sound of her moving around, her voice slightly muffled as the mic rustled, but it was still clear enough. "Yeah," I replied, rubbing the last bit of sleep from my eyes.

"Well... get ready," she said, her tone suddenly a little more upbeat.

I raised an eyebrow, now more awake. "Didn't you say you were busy?"

"You also said you were busy," Katie shot back, and I could practically hear the grin in her voice.

"Well, I guess we're both liars," I said with a smirk, already swinging my legs out of bed.

Katie laughed again. "Well, I guess so. And, knowing him, some of his friends are probably going to be there too."

I could practically hear the teasing in her voice. "It's like I can feel your smirk through the phone."

Katie stopped laughing, her tone shifting slightly. "Lemme stop playing with you, 'cause we both know you're not gonna do anything."

I smirked, shaking my head. "For the plot. P.L.O.T. Plot," I said, emphasizing each letter like I was making some grand point.

She snorted. "The plot? Really? You're just trying to sound deep to excuse whatever mess we're about to walk into."

"The mess I'm about to make?" I said jokingly, pulling a shirt off the hanger.

"Alright, get off my phone," Katie shot back, laughing. "And get ready."

Before I could respond, she hung up immediately, leaving me staring at the screen with a grin.
