“Where are we?”

“Some place safe. You’ll be fine here until Dan Heng will be able to come get you.”

Her eyes watched Blade carefully, they were still wet from her tears, but managed to quiet her sobs, “Dan Heng?”

Her voice sounded hopeful at the mention of his name. It made Blade just a tiny bit angry, but he hid that anger well, “come,” he pulled her hard as he made his way to the front door. She didn’t want to follow but she didn’t have much choice ever since she got into this mess.

“Whose is this place anyway?”

The front door to the mansion that Blade brought her to was unlocked. The stellaron hunter didn’t wait for someone to let them in and greet them as he barged right through the door without a care in the world.

“Blade-“

“Quiet. This place belongs to Jing Yuan.”

She felt her blood run cold at the mention of his name.

“Jing Yuan,” she whispered-yelled in surprise, “why did you bring me here?”

Blade glanced at her in the corner of his eye, “believe it or not, Jing Yuan may have said the wrong words to you in the past, but he is the only one who has done nothing to you.”

She looked up at Blade again, “what do you mean by that?”

“You shouldn’t have trusted anyone. Not in a world like this. Not someone like Dan Heng either, but what is done is done.”

“Youre not making any sense. And when are you going to explain what you said earlier, Blade.”

“Enough with your questions-“

“A lover’s quarrel in my front room? Honestly, don’t you know how to knock, Blade?”

Just like that, with a few simple words, Jing Yuan had easily quieted them both.

“We’re not lover’s Jing Yuan, but you already know that.”

The man merely smiled as he descended the long winding staircase, “you’re right, I was only messing with you. Though, I do wonder what brings you to my door with,” Jing Yuan looked to you, his smile turning ever so gentle, “miss y/n.”

She nodded to him, “h- hello, Mr. Jing Yuan…”

“No need to be so formal, you don’t work for me after all.”

“About that,” Blade interjected, “if the offer still stands, I suggest hiring her right now and forming a legal contract.”

Jing Yuan made it to the last step, but made no move to meet y/n or Blade who were still at the front door, “why is that?”

“Since I caused her to lose her job at that tailor shop, the other Stellaron Hunters expect her to complete her work contract another way. In order to do that, however…”

“You need another contract to nullify the previous one,” Jing Yuan finished, “why not go to Dan Heng? The two are together, are they not?”

She briefly wondered how Jing Yuan knew who she was dating, but decided not to interrupt.

“You and I both know Dan Heng is unable to form those contracts due to his latest trouble as Imbibitor Lunae.”

Jing Yuan mused to himself as he thought back to a year ago before all of this had transpired, “ah yes, when the grand pier exploded, right? That was quite the sight now wasn’t it?”

“The stellaron hunters lost 20% of their cargo that day.”

“Which what makes it so funny.”

Blade decided not to tolerate further as he gripped y/n’s wrist and pulled her forward. Her eyes widened at the sudden forward motion as she soon found herself falling. Seeing how fast the ground was approaching she threw both arms in front of her face to lessen the impact, but…the hard surface of the ground never met her as someone had caught her.

“Touched a nerve? Or maybe you’re mad about something else?”

“Enough. Do what you want with her, I don’t care. I did my part and got her out of there.”

“What made you want to save her?”

Blade didn’t answer as he made his way to the door, “Dan Heng has already been notified of the situation. He will be here shortly.”

“Wait! Blade!”

She called out to him as Jing Yuan held her tight against him to keep her from falling (and from following Blade).

He stopped to glance back at her.

“When are you going to explain everything?! You can’t just… hurt me one day and save me the next! Explain yourself Blade!”

He said nothing as he continued onward, the door shutting closed behind him.

“An immortal’s turmoil is hard to explain, but I’m sure you will see him again.”

"Do you know why he has helped me?"

Jing Yuan smiled gently at you, his eyes filled with a sort of knowing that was lost on you.

"His turmoil is something he should explain himself. Though, I can assure you, he will never hurt you again. Even if he says he wants to."
