Holding up a glass and looking at my reflection before wiping the inside with a cloth again. It's been two days since Valerie's quote on quote disappearance, and Antonio has now made me his make-up bartender until a replacement is found. Oddly enough, Ashton hasn't been around either, not that I'm complaining. Though its unlike him to not be here during opening hours.

Alastor sits across from me, running a finger around the rim of his own glass, humming along to the tune of the band playing. Days at his manor continued as normal. He explained to me how is shadow would serve as my protection whenever he isnt around. From time to time, I can see the creature darting around the walls, going corner to corner so quickly I wouldn't have notice had I not known it even existed.

The door to the back rooms swung open with an audible 'whoosh' and there stood Antonio, something shimmering in his hand. As he began walking towards me, I could make it out to be Ashton's icy silver watch. The one he was so obsessed with. He wouldnt shut his trap about it when he bought it and wore it ever since then. "Where the hell is Valerie!?" He questioned me, the same question for the millionth time.

"I don't know, sir. I still haven't heard from her." I lied, dropping my gaze to the counter and up to Alastor, who casually sipped his drink and looked about the room. Antonio huff a frustrated sigh before speaking once more, "Ashton aint gon' be around no more." His teeth gritted as he gripped the watch tightly. "Oh? How come?" I ask, genuinely curious but over the moon with joy as I wouldnt be suffering as much. Without him around, this job is a lot more bearable.

A beat of silence passed before he answered me, tone laced with a hint of sadness, "He was found yesterday..in an alley basically eaten alive they say.."

My eyes widen in horror at the morbid answer that I hadnt seen coming at all. My stomach churred at the visual. A sense of deja vu washed over me thinking back to Valerie and where she actually is right now.

The night ended with Antonio absolutely winded in grief, all of it being drowned out by 3 bottles of rum straight to the head. After locking up for him, leaving him passed out at the bar to wake up to his own devices, Alastor drove us home. The drive was fairly silent, like most days now. I dont find myself eager to talk as before. And Alastor, something doesnt feel right anymore. I often find myself wondering what else he is hiding, what other secrets are behind his charming smile and dreamy eyes. Who is he beyond the town famous radio host?

Closing the car door behind me, rushing up to the door and to my room as soon as the door opened. Alastor's faint voice called out for me, but now wasnt the time. Shutting my bedroom door, back pressed against it, my breath began to pick up as thoughts and the face of Valerie flashes throughout my mind. The visual of her lifeless body on my floor covered in blood sent a shiver down my spine. Tears pricked at the corner of eyes, but my lips turned upward into a smirk.
