Lost: 18

The first day of school was okay. The rest of the day went fine.

After lunch I went back to potions. I decided to go to Potion Brewing again. That girl from last time was there too. She sits in the back of class. I sit with her but we don't talk.

She seems quite out of the ordinary and always seems to be working or doing something. I never really see her just simply sitting there.

I think she's curious of me cause I feel like I can see her glancing at me from time to time but it's like she can sense that I'm about to glance at her and she immediately averts her eyes.

I think the professor mentioned her name but I kind of forgot it. Something with an A? I don't know.

Anyway, I told my mom about how yesterday was. I brought up Amaya and how she is. She seemed nervous about me talking to her. I told her she seems pretty nice from what I've gathered.

She just warned me not to get too close.

I told her I'll be fine.

It was already the next day. There was still time before class started so I was sort of just lagging around with Cerise.

...

"River." She glances at me.

"...Yeah?" I ask.

"I feel bad asking, but before classes start I like to hang out with some of my friends. It would be awkward if you were with me." She says.

...

"Sorry." I say awkwardly.

"Look. Just... hang out by your class or something Kay?" She asks.

"Fine, fine." I say.

...

"Hey wait." I say before I go.

She glances at me and raises an eyebrow.

"Why didn't you tell me you talk to Amaya?" I glare slightly at her.

"She's nice!" Cerise smiles.

... I guess she is but still.

"You guys are friends?" I ask.

"Oh, well more like acquaintances, not really friends. I talk with her every now and then because we share a class." She says.

"She was asking stuff about me?" I ask.

"Oh yeah, she said she recognized me and then realized I was your sister so she was all like 'omt how's River' and I told her you're homeschooled and babysitting kids and stuff and all that great stuff, just the usual..." she shrugs.

"Oh. Great. She knew I already babysit when I told her I babysit I feel stupid for even bringing it up." I facepalm myself.

"Oh relax. She's fine, she's really nice you know." Cerise says.

I sigh.

"You've been talking with her?" She tilts her head and smiles.

"She noticed me yesterday and invited me to sit with her at lunch and I did and we caught up a little..." I say.

"Oh cool. Maybe you guys can be friends again. Anyway, gonna go, see you." She waves me off and then starts walking off.

...

I stand there awkwardly.

Okay. Might as well go to my class then.

I walk towards the potions building. Glancing at everyone around me, sorta keeping my head down.
