**This is set in the 8 months after the battle in COG when Aiden ignored Aru. **

Aiden Acharya felt like everything was wrong.

The girl you love will be the death of you...It repeated itself in his head like some sort of mantra.

"Yo, are you okay?" asked Ahmed, one of his friends.

"I'm fine," said Aiden, reassuringly.

"Are you sure?" asked Menon. "You've been blanking a lot recently."

"Sorry," said Aiden. "It's just stress."

"You know you can talk to us right, bro?" said James. "Especially if it's about a girl."

The table of boys burst out in laughter at James's sly remark, but Aiden felt his blood run cold.

Because it was about a girl.

And her name is Arundhati Shah.

His friends were never going to have to deal with the same things he was. I mean, were they ever going to deal with haughty devas that only pride and care about themselves instead of the world they were made to protect? No.

He offered his friends a pressed smile and rose from his seat, "I'm going to the bathroom,"

"See you, man," said Menon.

Aiden left the loud, large cafeteria into the narrow, quiet hallway.

The hallway's marble tiles were stained with dirt and muddy footprints. Aiden scrunched his nose in disgust. The tube lights on the ceiling were way too bright for his liking and the teal lockers didn't match the rest of the hallway.

He adjusted his watch (A.K.A Shadowfax) before he headed down the hallway to the bathroom, until he saw Aru.

She was rummaging through her locker, possibly trying to find something (knowing her that was probably the case) and didn't notice him.

He felt like she'd gotten prettier nowadays, if that was even possible for her.

Aru's hair was put in a low ponytail, loosened from the school day. She was wearing dark blue, wide-legged, high waisted jeans and a black, square neck shirt. Vajra glowed brightly on her wrist, dawning an ethereal light upon her face.

She was beautiful.

As if on que, Aru looked directly at Aiden who was frozen by the very sight of her. Her large eyes twitched in confusion, but she turned back to her locker as if nothing was wrong.

When Aiden walked past her, he swore he heard her take in a sharp breath.

He felt like a jerk for constantly avoiding her, but there was nothing he could do about it. His feelings towards her were growing by the day, to the point he might as well just burst.

Aiden looked towards her once more, only to find her looking at him. When their eyes met, Aru pursed her lips and looked away, whispering something under her breath.

He, too, averted his eyes and stepped into the washroom.

Aiden stood there, thinking about what she might've said. She probably despised him for not talking to her.

He looked at himself in the mirror.

Yes, he was a total dunce for ignoring her, but it seemed like he was somehow plagued with prophecy.

Then again, Aiden reminded himself that when the time comes, he would accept his fate without another thought if it meant Aru would still be alive.
