"I never want to do that again," shuddered Mini as she and Aru got back to their apartment.
Aru rolled her eyes and plopped her keys into the key bowl. "How did you lose Rudy anyway?"
Mini hung her jacket, turning to grab Aru's as well. "Rudy saw one of his brother's girlfriend's step-brother's cousin and ran off."
"Hold on, what?" asked Aru. "He saw his brother's girlfriend's step-mother's cousin? Isn't that basically an uncle? Why would they be in a club with a bunch of university students?"
"No, Aru," said Mini. "His brother's girlfriend's step-brother's cousin."
Aru squinted. "Oh." A pause. "Wait. How does he know his brother's girlfriend's step-brother's cousin?"
"I don't even know," said Mini, walking down the short hallway leading to her room. "I'm taking bathroom first!"
Aru groaned, flopping onto the couch. "Fine."
She stretched her arms over her head, letting out a deep sigh. Just as she reached for the TV remote, her phone buzzed on the coffee table. She picked it up absentmindedly, but when she saw the message on the screen, she froze.
(885) 529-3609
Is this Aru Shah?
Aru frowned, expecting the worse. Was she being stalked? Or worse, blackmailed? But then she thought again. Why would anyone want to blackmail her?It wasn't like she was secretly an heiress to a billionaire tech empire.
Her fingers hovered over the keyboard as she twisted her bracelet, hesitating. She debated ignoring it altogether, but curiosity got the better of her.
yea whos this
A second later, her phone buzzed again.
Aiden Acharya
Aru's stomach flipped. No fucking way.
He actually texted her.
She stared at the screen, half expecting the message to disappear like some kind of hallucination. She'd given her number to him in a heat of the moment sort of scenario, and immediately afterward, she'd felt so embarrassed. Why on Earth would a super handsome guy-who looked like he'd been built out of starlight-willingly want to text her?
Her brain short-circuited. What was she supposed to say?
She typed:
hey
Deleted it. Too dry.
hey!
Deleted again. Too enthusiastic.
yeah this is aru
No. Way too formal.
new phone who dis
Oh god, no.
Before she could spiral further, Mini emerged from the bathroom, towel drying her hair. "What's with your face? You look like you just saw a ghost."
Aru shoved her phone under a pillow. "I did not."
Mini raised an eyebrow. "You so did."
Aru hesitated. "Okay, maybe not a ghost, but..." She sighed dramatically. "Worse."
