Jake's POV
"why do I have to take her flowers I barely know her" I complain on the phone to my mom as I walk into the unfamiliar hospital. My cousin got a bad case of the flu so she has been in the hospital for days and my parents are sending me with a gift for her recovery because they are away for work. "do not be rude and just smile and say a few nice words then leave" she says back to me "fine" I hang up the phone and try to look for my cousins room. A security guard comes up to me "are you lost" she says in a tired tone, I look at her name tag 'Lottie' "Im looking for room 23" "that's on the 3rd floor on the right" "thank you Lottie" I say and walk away she glares at me for calling her by her first name.
I finally get to my cousins room and I give her the flowers and she begins to tell me about her plans for when she leaves the hospital. As she speaks I begin to look around the room, its not too big nor too small, machines, supply containers, a television, clear doors and wall looking out onto the hallway, other patients and doctors walking by. "so how has school been" she asks "good, I'm almost done with my last year of high school" I say "I miss high school" she says "you barely graduated" I say she laughs I look out the glass walls. A girl, I couldn't keep my eyes off her as I shamelessly stare at her, she's wearing a hospital gown and slippers. She goes into the room right across from us. "Jake" my cousin nudges me "what" I say "she's pretty right" "Beautiful" "I heard shes been in here most of her life, she just has her dad I'm not too sure what happened to her mom but it doesn't seem like shes in her life" "what's her name" "Cherry" "Cherry?" "yup" what an interesting name.
The next day I go to visit my cousin again "you are here again" she asks I nod as I impatiently wait for Cherry to go to her room "are those flowers not for me" my cousin asks "nope" I say not even turning to look at her "I am guessing they are for Cherry it seems like she left an impression on you". After about half a hour of waiting she finally goes into her room. I knock on the open door and see Cherry reading a book in her hospital bed. She looks up at me and she raises an eyebrow "Do I know you" she asks "no but you can, I'm Jake, my cousin is in the room across from you" I say taking a step inside "shouldn't you be with her then" "she's okay she's getting released later today, but I brought you these flowers" I say placing them on the small counter next to her "Why" she asks "why not" I say "I don't need your pity" she says looking back at her book "you can go now Jake" she says "it is not like that, I'd like to get to know you-" I get cut off "Cherry who's this" an older man walks in "Some boy named Jake he's leaving though Dad" she says eyeing me the door "go ahead and see your self out" the man says "right I'll see you later, Cherry"
I walk out of the room and head to the elevator "hey you" I turn to see who's voice it is. Lottie the security guard from yesturday. "yes" I say "why are you bothering that girl" she says "Cherry" I question Lottie nods "I am not bothering her I just thought-" "thought nothing, Cherry is the sweetest patient this hospital has ever had, don't get involved into something your not ready for, don't make things worse for her, if you know what's good for you that's the last time you see her" the guard says "what are you her mom" I say "Listen" she looks at me "Jake" I say "Listen Jake, you don't know half of her and that is whats good for you go find yourself someone out of this place" she says sincerly "I'll see you tommorrow" I say as I enter the elevator and leave.Authors Note: Thank you for reading!
