Ch 2

Jake's POV

The bell rings signaling the end of the school day Sunghoon puts his arm around my shoulder as we walk out of the classroom "theirs a party later they're expecting us to show up" he says "I am not going" Sunghoon stops in his tracks and I turn back to him "has hell frozen over" he says "Not yet what happened" Jay says inserting himself into the conversation as he walks up to us with Sunoo  "Jake is not going to the party later" "I think I need to double check if hell has frozen over" "Why not that's our thing everyone knows and expects us to be at the parties that why they have them so we can be there" Jay says "I have plans" "what plans" "you did not invite us" "I am going to the hospital, I met a girl" I say they all burst out laughing "please leave the poor girl alone, why would you want to break an already hospitalized girls heart" Sunoo says "I am not going to" I mumble we approach Sunghoons Porsche in the schools parking lot so we can go home "Jake I am going to honest here you don't exactly have the best record when it comes to girls" Jay says "None of you guys do, you dump each girl after a few weeks and leave them miserable" Sunoo says "you don't know her she makes me feel, different"

"Hey can I come in" I say at the door of Cherry's room "what do you want now" she says "I want to talk to you" I say coming into the room "About" she questions "Anything I would just like to get to know you" I say. She stares at me she stares into my eyes then looks at my hair I feel her gaze inspecting every part of my body, she looks at my arms raises her eyebrow and keeps looking all the way down to my feet. she looks back into my eyes for a few seconds then says "what do you want from me, I do not have much, you can obviously see I'm in the hospital, I have been rude to you in every encounter we have, what could I possibly have that you are trying so hard to get" She almost shocks me by her words. how can she think I am only here to get something from her. "I do not want anything from you but your time and attention... can I have that"

"so why do you want to talk to me" she says sitting across from me in the hospitals lunch room "well if I am going to be completely honest, I think your beautiful, and I really admire the way you carry yourself very, independent, confident even, your words and the way you speak is always so certain" I say "are you always this up front" she questions "I would say yes, I have a question, what are you here for" I say almost scared she won't tell me "I have a heart condition, I do not really like to speak about but it is very fatal that's why I have been here most of my life, I haven't been away from here for more then 3 days" she says I nod "I know this hospital inside and out and know the employees very well they almost feel like family" she says "you know Lottie" I ask she laughs. she has a beautiful laugh "Of course I do she told me you looked really lost the first day you came here" she smiles "yeah I was" I say smiling back at her.

"do you go to school here or something" I ask "my dad home.... hospital schools me" she laughs at her own joke "its my 12th year in education" she says "so you would be a senior like me" I say "really" she says I nod "your lucky you get to enjoy things like school sports events and prom oh my goodness prom I would love to go to prom" she says "I don't really do that stuff" I say "so what do you do" she questions. Memories of getting drunk out of my mind at parties, and doing the stupidest things with my friends at random places like jumping into random lakes fully clothed. I bring myself back to the conversation "I just do whatever plans my friends make" I say she nods "do you have a lot of friends" she asks "I have a few close friends" I say "so you say you want to go to prom, is their anything else you always wanted to do" I ask "when your in the hospital all day for most of your life, you make a list of things you want to do"

Stargaze
Watch the sun rise
Have my first kiss
Loose virginity
Fall in love
Get married?

I stare at the paper, the list is very simple yet they are very important things someone can do in their life. I look at her as I set the paper down, her cheeks are red. I rub her face with my thumb "I promise you I will do my best to help you experience these things" I say she smiles and hugs me "thank you" she says "I never thought I would have someone like you in my life"
