Red wouldn't describe herself as a straight-A student, but she at least tried to take her schoolwork seriously. There were certain subjects she could never quite understand, like history and math. Even if she was homeschooled and lived with a tyrannical queen for a mother, she strived for Bs... at least.
However, adjusting to the speed of classes at Auradon Prep was proving to be difficult, especially since Hatter had supposedly put in a good word for Red to be in 'higher' classes. She had more than five assignments almost everyday since the beginning of the term a few weeks ago. There were many times she considered turning in subpar work and taking an average grade because it was simply too much. But that would probably give her new wonderful mother a reason to be disappointed in her.
Besides the coursework, Red also found the social life of her new school to be tiring. Students always whispered and talked about her as she walked past in the hallways. To them, Wonderland was a kingdom of mystery beyond compare, not a kingdom of death and so-called treachery. And, besides Chloe, Red knew absolutely no one.
It's not like I really need friends anyways, Red thought as she watched the sword and shield match in front of her unfold.
That's another thing she didn't understand about Auradon: new students had to choose an extracurricular to be a part of until they graduated. For 'cultural goodness and wellbeing' as Principal Uma stated.
"New to Auradon, I'm assuming?" A girl next to her said.
Red turned her head slightly to see a girl standing next to her, smiling brightly. Her jaw nearly dropped at the height of the girl who stood at least half a foot above her head. The brunette, whose eyes were freakishly blue like the ocean with dark tanned skin, looked like she could be a model or a goddess of some sort based off of her beauty.
"Not much of a talker, I see," the girl chuckles to herself. "I'm Evangeline, my dad's Hercules, you know, the big strong hero slash demi-god? But people tend to call me Eva."
Red looked her straight in the eyes, unwavering, and pursed her lips together. "Red."
"Oh, yeah, I know who you are. You're the Princess of Hearts," she smiles.
"Then why did you ask if I was new here?"
Eva shrugs. "Just wanted to start a conversation."
The sword match is quick to end, just like their so-called conversation. The loser is flat out on their butt with the winner standing over them, carrying both swords in their hands. The winner drops one and pulls off their helmet to reveal who was underneath it.
Of course it's Chloe, Red grimaces to herself when she recognizes the blue haired princess. Sword and shield is exactly her cup of tea.
There's a bright smile on Chloe's face as the knight held up her hand in victory. She looks at everyone in the crowd that has formed before finding Red among them, her eyes piercing her like swords themselves.
"'So, are you thinking about joining sword and shield as your extracurricular?" asked Eva. "I'm co-captains with your roommate up there. Although, I think she's a much better fighter than I am."
"How nice, and no, I'm not. I'm not much of a... sword fighter," Red manages a fake smile to the brunette.
"That's fine, we have a whole bunch of beginners. I'm sure we can turn you into the finest swordsman – well, more like a swordswoman – that Auradon has ever seen."
"Thank you for the offer, Eva, but I'm not cut out for any of this... knightly stuff."
Red walked away and figured she might as well head back to her dorm since she had the last period of the day off, so that meant school was practically over for her. She looks back as she leaves the crowded ampitheater to find Eva talking to Chloe; the blue haired princess kept her eyes on her. They stared at each other for a brief moment before Red continued walking back in the direction of their dorm room.
