- about Chapter 8: Tubbo's guilt, desperation, and delirious state made him think that it was Tommy who came to rescue him, but it was Phil who chose to play the part (and Ghostbur). Phil thought that it would be better for Tubbo to think that Tommy came to rescue him, thinking it would make it easier to get him back home and not wanting to aggravate Tubbo's fragile mental state even more
- Members of L'Manburg want to kill Dream (to stop his tyranny and stuff) at a festival they are hosting
- They inform Dream about a fun festival to celebrate their new peace and change in the country
--> Dream agrees
- Dream trains and manipulates Tommy (for the time after Tommy faked his death, till the day of the festival), gaslighting him into thinking that L'Manburg (and specifically Tubbo) are to blame for everything that happened to Tommy (and his exile)
--> Tommy is bitter, sad and vengeful
- The members of L'Manburg and Dream are at the festival (Phil and Ghostbur are not there)
--> Dream has seemingly come alone
- Tubbo has a big speech, ends it with the word "Freedom!", Which is the queue for Quackity (who was positioned with a crossbow on a nearby roof) to shoot Dream
--> surprisingly, Dream dodges; everyone is frozen in shock
- Someone moves to attack, others follow
--> Dream dodges and fights back and is joined by a hooded figure, who fights alongside him
- It starts to rain
- Fundy doesn't really seem to attack Dream
- Hooded figure attacks Tubbo viciously, which causes him to stumble away and eventually trip and fall to the ground
- Hooded Figure (with his sword at Tubbo's throat): "Surrender now or he will die!"
- Citizens stop attacking, staring at Tubbo with surprise and fear
- Quackity asks how Dream knew about the assassination and Dream reveals he had a spy
--> Fundy is revealed to be the whistleblower (he was promised a high position under Dreams reign and was gaslit into believing that life is better with Dream as a leader)
--> Citizens are shocked, outraged etc.
- Tubbo (looks back up at the hooded figure, sword still at this throat): "And who are you?"
- H.F. (tightening his grip on the sword): "Already forgot about me? You sure moved on quickly..."
- Dream is extremely pleased with the situation and tells him to reveal himself
--> Tommy takes his hood off (his eyes are dull and hateful)
--> everyone is shocked, especially Tubbo who just stares at Tommy
- Tommy: "Thought you got rid of me?"
- Tubbo (confused, still shocked, uncomprehending): "What? No. I- You're not dead. But the letter, Logstedshire... I don't understand"
- Tommy explains that he faked his death, Dream showed him the truth and how this will bring peace
- Tubbo: "But why? We built this place together. We are best friends-"
- Tommy (cutting him off, holding the sword closer to Tubbo's throat; angry) "Best Friends?! Friends don't abandon each other. You betrayed me and then left me to rot! No one!" (he looks around to the other Citizens) "Not a single one of you tried to help me or even visited! Not once."
- Everyone looks guilty and ashamed
- Dream walk over to Tommy, encouraging him to go through with their plan and execute Tubbo
--> Tubbo begs him not to, tries to convince Tommy that Dream is manipulating him and that he can still walk away from this
- Tommy stares coldly down at Tubbo but has a flicker of hesitation and uncertainty
- Dream keeps gaslighting Tommy, telling him about all the good things he did for/with Tommy and how awful Tubbo (and the others) have been to him
--> Tommy has internalized the hate and vengeance
- Tommy (smiling down at Tubbo bitterly with cold eyes): "Sorry but... our friendship, all of this..." (gestures around L'Manburg. He chuckles) "It was never ment to be."
- Tommy slashes Tubbo's throat, staring down at Tubbo as he struggles for air through the blood
--> Something in Tommy screams at him, horrified by what he's done, or maybe it's just the citizens that have shaken off their frozen shock state and have started to either yell and attack Tommy and Dream or run to Tubbo's side to try and help him
- Tubbo dies, staring at Tommy with shock, heartbreak and guilt
- Tommy and Dream quickly flee the scene, escaping back to Dream's house
- Dream tells him how proud he is, that they will destroy L'Manburg for what they did to Tommy
- Tommy feels happy at the praise and is excited for revenge but inside he is numb and tired, broken by the fact that he killed Tubbo
- That night Tommy lies awake in his bed at Dream's house, the reality of him killing Tubbo making his emotions swirl wildly
- Tommy lets out a startled yell when he sees Tubbo in the corner of the room (pale, wet and coated in blood, open wound at his throat) staring at Tommy with dead eyes
--> Dream comes to check on him, confused and on edge, asking Tommy if he is okay
- Tommy (nodding, trying to hide his fear; forcing his eyes away from Tubbo to look at Dream): "Yeah of course... Just a ...nightmare. Yeah. Don't worry about me, big man, I'm fine."
- Dream eventually lets it go, leaving Tommy alone with Tubbo still standing in the corner
--> Tubbo keeps staring at him, asking him over and over again why he did it and why he would do something like that to his best friend
That is technically the end of the fic. No happy ending for the boys, sorry.
It is up for the reader to decide why Tubbo is there/what he is; if he is a hallucination, a physical manifestation of Tubbo's guilt and rage or just a ghost like Ghostbur (I personally imagine it to be the first option)
A different/extended ending would have included Tommy and Dream going through with their plan and eliminating all citizens of L'Manburg, who would then haunt Tommy as well.
No, my 15-year-old self in quarantine apparently did not understand the concept of happiness and lived off of pure angst... (who am I kidding, I still do)
