Vera's POV
I wasn't sure how long we stayed at the cabin, but it was at least another 12 hours as the werewolf came back and Hayden shot it a second time. It collapsed dramatically close to the door, and blood splattered against the window.
I sat on the couch now as Austin was fast asleep. Blake himself had not woken since he passed out when we all arrived here. Hayden was still sitting in the chair facing the door. I looked at him. He had a slightly serious expression as he checked the shotgun every once in a while before turning to look at the door again.
"If you know that the werewolf always comes at twelve, why do you keep staring at the door?"
"I don't know," Hayden said. "Hoping for more players?"
"Numbers increase the odds?"
"I would hope so."
"You a gamer?" I asked.
"Mostly shooter games, but then I couldn't resist playing a game that many people were looking forward to — bragging rights and such."
"And then you ended getting trapped before all of us.""Yeah, that's how my luck seems to go," Hayden glanced at me and grimaced. "You a gamer? Austin seems to trust you."
"Well, we all pretty much spawned at the same time. He saved my life, and I have a lot of good information," I said. "Though I'm not sure how much more use I will be."
"Knowledge is pretty invaluable here—heck, you guessed this was a werewolf game purely over the fact that it was a full moon. That's impressive." Hayden said.
"Austin told you that?"
"No, Rey."
"Hmm," I stared at Rey, who had yet again passed out on the couch across from me.
"You think we're getting out of this alive?" Hayden asked.
"I don't know," I whispered, and turned to look at him.
"But most horror games don't have happy endings, do they?"
"No, they don't," I whispered. I stared at Blake. He was only twelve years out—too young, and the odds weren't in his favor. But he had Austin looking out for him, and if it wasn't for Austin, I wouldn't even be here. Austin was also the most calm amongst us - I wondered what he did for a living. It probably had something to do with his calm demeanor.
As if he could hear my thoughts, he stirred and grunted, slowly sitting up.
"What time is it?"
"Three, so — a could nine hours before wolfie shows its face again."
"Well, we can't stay here forever," Austin said. "Unless you guys want to live for the rest of your lives in a cabin."
My stomach sunk. This cabin itself, however cozy it was, it was still a prison. I couldn't bear the thought of staying here too long.
"Hell no," Rey said, rubbing his eyes.
Blake groaned as he slowly opened his eyes.
"Well, level three it is then," Hayden muttered.
"You want to take that gun with us?" I asked.
"I can't carry the shotgun further than the border of the door," Hayden said. "Trust me, I tried."
"Game limitations," I whispered. It took us a couple more minutes before we all started hiking through the woods, with Hayden now leading the way. The forest was pretty simple and repetitive, and within a few minutes we reached the door with the number two now lit up in a green light. I stepped through and frowned as I noticed the wall closing off the corridor had now moved a little, with a long window showing off what was going outside. I slowly walked to the window and stared outside. The house was planted on a hill, with a long rocky wall surrounding it, and it was clearly night time.
