Hira woke up with a splitting headache and a craving for white chocolate.
The Potatoes were spending the night at Brynne's penthouse. Gunky and Funky had gone out to attend some sort of work related meeting, and the Potatoes were crashing at theirs, because they had nothing better to do on winter break.
The girl quietly woke up, careful to not disturb the rest of the Potatoes who were sleeping in Brynne's living room.
Hira walked to the kitchen from her bed, and opened the fridge to find white chocolate.
She eagerly took out the bar of half-eaten chocolate from the fridge and was about to eat until-
"What are you doing?" an overly familiar voice asked from behind her.
Hira doubtfully turned around to see Brynne with a small smile on her face.
"I had a sudden craving for white chocolate," said Hira, looking at the Cadbury dairy milk white chocolate.
"Mind if I have some?" Brynne asked.
Hira smiled, "Why not?"
"So why are you awake?" Brynne asked, biting into the white chocolate.
"Headache," responded Hira. "You?"
"Just couldn't sleep."
They took a seat at the kitchen counter, a comfortable silence drowning the atmosphere.
"I should go," said Hira when she finished her chocolate.
Brynne raised an eyebrow, "Why?"
She didn't respond and turned around to leave.
"What's been happening to you lately?" asked Brynne.
Hira inwardly cringed. There it was. The question she was hoping Brynne wouldn't ask.
How was she going to explain that she felt like an outcast amidst the Potatoes? The rest of them had done something for the world, hell, saved the world from getting destroyed. Hira didn't know if she could even consider herself a Potato anymore. And she'd just found out that she probably has a crush on Brynne who was a Pandava and someone she was incredibly envious of.
"Whatever do you mean?" Hira asked, hating how her voice came out shaky.
Brynne's eyes darkened, "You know what I mean."
"I really should get back," Hira said once again, turning around.
"No you're not." said Brynne, clutching on to her arm. "You will tell me what's happening."
Hira diverted her eyes elsewhere, "Brynne, this really isn't the time,"
"I don't care!" she exclaimed, startling Hira. "You've been out of it, and it's starting to worry me," Brynne's grasp on her arm loosened.
Hira felt her eyes well up, "You wouldn't understand!"
"I wouldn't understand what?" Brynne asked, setting the chocolate down.
"I can't do this anymore," whispered Hira.
"You can't do what anymore?" Brynne asked, her voice softening.
"I'm useless amongst all of you!" Hira exclaimed. "I feel inferior and jealous. I know that you all just consider me a potato just because I was adopted by Mini's parents but I've never been apart of you all and-"
"Is that really what you think?" asked Brynne, extending an arm out to her.
"What else is there to think?" Hira whispered, a tear sliding down her cheek.
"I've never thought that of you, Hira," said Brynne, wiping away the tear. "You're just as brave as the rest of us are."
"Is everything okay?" said someone from behind Hira. Hira turned around to see her adoptive sister, Mini.
"I'm sorry if I woke you up," said Hira, noticing Mini's messy hair and swollen eyes.
"It's fine," said Mini. "But is everything okay with you two?"
"We're fine," said Brynne. "Is everyone else still asleep?"
Mini giggled. "They're snoring. Part of the reason I woke up."
Hira smiled, "Then we'll get back to bed."
Mini smiled at the two and left to the living room, where everyone else had fallen asleep.
"C'mon," said Brynne, holding Hira's hand.
Hira said nothing and simply held Brynne's hand, trailing behind Mini.
Brynne took her seat on one of the two, two-seater couches that were placed parallel to each other, and Hira took a seat next to her.
Opposite from them on the other two-seater lay Rudy and Mini. She was comfortably curled up on the right side of the seat, her glasses in the cup holder next to her, while Rudy was sprawled out on the rest of the seat, his head resting on Mini's shoulder, feet propped up against the left arm of the seat. He was snoring and his snoring was loud, to the point Hira wondered how Mini was sleeping peacefully.
In between the two was the sofa where Aru and Aiden were sleeping. Aiden was casually sitting on the left side, his feet on the coffee table, and Aru's head was up against his shoulder, Aiden's arm around her waist, capturing Aru in a warm embrace.
Hira smiled at the two couples. Well, technically, one couple, because Mini and Rudy weren't official yet. She felt her eyes feel heavy, and rested her head at Brynne's shoulder, who in return tilted her head against Hira's. They were comfortable, and Hira wished it would stay like this forever.
Next morning
"Why is there chocolate on the table?" Aiden asked, picking up the bar of chocolate.
Aru gasped, "GIMME!" she said, trying to grab the chocolate out of Aiden's arms, but of no avail because Aiden was way taller than her.
Brynne and Hira exchanged a knowing glance, and Brynne announced, "Who wants breakfast?"
Aru suddenly stopped pestering Aiden and gleamed.
"What're you making, Bee?" asked Aiden, wrapping his hand around Aru's waist.
"Dosa and sambar."
"YAY!"
