The next morning, The Rohirrim set out on horseback with three new companions. They lead Aragorn and his odd friends back to Edoras, as they wished to speak with the king. As they rode, Eomer warned the men of Theoden’s new foul ways, and Aagorn’s face grew contorted and worried. Fulca wondered if he knew anything about the king’s corruption.
As the riders drew nigh to Edoras, Fulca split off from the others. He rode instead into the East, far from any civilization. Here, the Misty Mountains blocked the red sky from Isengard, and one could be persuaded for just a moment that all was well in the world. Fulca dismounted his horse and turned to look at the view. The land was flat and grassy. The sun stood high in the sky now, a strong beam that could finally provide hope without the interference of the darkness of Mordor. Here, Fulca lowered himself to the ground. He removed his armour and gently began to dig in the rich soil. The ground was cool and fresh as he dug, and his horse grazed and rested in the grass beside him. Once he had made an adequate hole, Fulca took the sword from his waist. He let it sink gently into the opening before covering it with the soil again. Fulca patted the ground down before using his finger to draw a crude image of the white tree of Gondor on the soil. Fulca then stood and walked away from the blade, his horse following slowly behind him. He walked until he could no longer see the patch of soil before mounting his horse and beginning back to Edoras. Perhaps Fulca would never have his own valiant story to be told in the great tales or sung in songs for years to come, but he would give an honourable ending to a man who would.
