From the ruins of the Russian FSSR, some new countries who survived from the attacks began to rise.

Inspired by the Baltic and Nordic countries, who declared independence and became more western alligned, independent groups managed to seize some parts of southern Russia and small areas in the north.

Southern areas of the Dagestan ASSR are the main territories of the Republic.

September 26th, 1983. Somewhere near Makhachkala, Dagestan ASSR

Darn...Two strikes... Makhachkala has been destroyed...And Kitslyar has been vaporized... THOSE AMERICANS HAD STARTED IT!!!

She was able to flee thanks to her location, which forcet Saidat to leave the striked to the south, to reach a new capital and home...maybe near the mountains

The capital city of Dagestan, the city of Makhachkala, along with the air base near the city of Kitslyar, were both nuked on Doomsday. Refugees were sent fleeing throughout the republic, the majority of which fled southwards. The government officals who survived the attack fled southwards, to the city of Derbent, which became the provisional capital of the republic.

In the months that followed, no news from Moscow, or really, any other cities in the Soviet Union, arrived in Derbent. This led many to believe that the USSR had managed to collapse completely. A nationalist movement began to emerge as a result; the lack of news from outside brought joy to many, who began to believe that the communist government that had long oppressed them and their religion was now gone, though this angered the officials from the capital.

The southern portions of Dagestan received little damage from the events of Doomsday, having been protected by distance and the mountains. Areas north from there received some fallout, and are today in the process of being put back under government control.

In 1985, things finally came to a head, and the communist officials were overthrown by nationalists. Independence was promptly declared on July 11th, 1985.

July 11th, 1985. Derbent, Dagestan.

The provisional goverment, formed by Dagestani nationalistic groups, which were inspited by the Azeri nationalistic movements (which would cause the neighbouring SSR to declare their independence from the Soviet Union on December 29, 1985). In the fortress of Naryn-Kala, the goverment established there, and became the main goverment area of the Republic.

Saidat was allowed to live in the city proper, near the Park Svobody, but connected to the new goverment in a symbolic way

However, due to the multi-ethnic makeup of the area, the republic itself is rather prone to in-fighting of some degree, though a power-sharing agreement signed when the republic was established has done much to mitigate the trouble. The new elite of the republic, largely consisting of Avars, Dargins, and the small Russian population, has done much to keep this intact.

Overall, however, Islam has proven to be a unifier in the region, as for the majority of ethnic groups, it is the only real thing that they have in common.
