OPPOSITE FORCES.
1777, JULY 16th, SATURDAY 10:41am.
Noche stood before the elevator doors as everyone made small talk behind her. A second later there was a ding and the doors parted. Inside was a humanoid snow owl dressed in a bellhop uniform.
"Oh my gosh! Hi! I'm Speedy Sunny and I'm a bellhop!" The owl woman shouted. "I will be directing you all towards your rooms! Can I take your bags please!"
Noche was silent as she stared at the woman. The blonde shook her head and let out a sigh before walking onto the elevator.
"We don't have any bags, but thank you," Mary said.
"Oh my gosh, I love your black eyes and outfit! Very casual vampire aesthetic! I dig it!"
"Thaaanks," Mary forced a smile.
Alice nodded to the owl lady, Tak stuttered his thanks, and Boots was silent as they all entered. Noche leaned on the side rail as Speedy Sunny continued to blather on and on about the hotel and what it was like to work there.
The blonde rolled her eyes into the back of her head, but they snapped forward when the doors opened. She didn't wait one second longer and darted out. Noche pushed past everyone and dashed down the hall.
"Wait! I have to help you find your room!" Sunny yelled.
"That's alright! I got it! Thank you for all your help!" Noche shouted back.
It didn't take long for her to find her room, slap the keycard against the reader, rush inside, and slam the door shut. The blonde slid down the door, sat on the floor, and knocked her head against the wood behind her.
"Fuuuuuuuccck."
Noche stood up and jumped onto the bed. She landed face first and just laid there for a few moments.
"Hate the desert... Hate Creeps and Galloway... The sooner I get of everyone's fear of civil war, the better," she mumbled into the blankets. "Then I'll be free... I just have to calm down. Don't let that desert fray my nerves any further. Just, hurry up and deal with this Raptorman dude."
Noche flipped onto her back and stared at the ceiling. She'd been having nightmares lately, which was strange considering she had mastered Limbo. Supposedly, her consciousness resided in that realm rather than her body. So, in a way, she was always conscious.
Still, whenever she slept, her consciousness wandered that surreal realm in a semi-lucid state. If she let her guard down, her subconscious worries would bubble up to the surface and alter the world around her into a place of nightmares.
"Maybe I should start killing myself instead of sleeping. If I do that, I think I'd resurrect in a new body that's fresh and full of energy," she muttered. "With how much I've died in the last few months, I'm sure a few more deaths wouldn't make that big of a difference on my psyche."
The blonde sat up.
"Right – enough of that. I just need to deal with Raptorman, fix the city, and get out of here as fast as possible. Then I can leave this desert."
Noche got off the bed and stretched.
"I got a place to stay and checked it out. Time to hit the road and meet the mayor-king," Noche scoffed. "What a title."
As the blonde headed back out into the hall, she found Tak standing halfway into his room with that blabbermouth Sunny pelting him with words. Nearby another door was open and inside the room was a fire.
