1777, JULY 20th, WEDNESDAY 7:57am.
Noche slammed her hand down on the table three separate times before finding her phone and turning off the alarm. She sat up with her face groggy, hair disheveled, and overall looking like a mess. Bleary eyes stared at the phone screen in a vain attempt to process it.
"Today's the twentieth. Today's the twentieth!"
A wicked grin spread across her face as she jumped out of bed and grabbed her clothes. It only took a few seconds for the blonde to get dressed and slam the door behind. She ran face-first into someone in the hall.
"Morning Nachos."
"Vida."
"Heading somewhere?"
"None of your business."
"The tournament, right?"
Noche glared at the blind girl.
"Of course you'd head there. Your little plan aside, how could either of us resist?"
"Us? What do you mean us?"
"Ohh? Did you think you were going alone?"
"Vida, don't tell me."
"A chance to fight some of the strongest people in MoveCity. How could I pass this up?"
"Vida, I can't have you fucking this up for me. This is a matter of finishing the mission quickly."
"Yeah, Shaylin told us all about your little plan. I think she's got a point. That Raptorman fella does not like you."
"I don't care what he likes – I was given two orders. Don't use corruption and don't slaughter either side. This doesn't violate either of those."
"Bitch please. You're a bomb waiting to blow. It's only a matter a time before you violate one or the other. Probably both," Vida shrugged. "But hey, not my problem. I'm here to fight. Not to be your nanny."
Noche didn't respond. She pushed past Vida and made her way to the elevators. The blind girl kept up.
"You know, the group has been giving you space. We all know how much the desert works you up. Seeing as how you massacred those protestors our first day here, they thought you needed time to cool off. I'm not sure it helped."
"I'm fine."
"Yuh-huh."
"I'll be a lot better when the mission is done, and I can leave this forsaken place."
"If you say so."
Noche and Vida traveled the rest of the way in silence.
Sometime later, the two girls entered a crowded city square. Nearly a million people were gathered here and the sheer number was almost overwhelming for the blonde. Drive metal booths were set up all around the place. Their purpose was to keep people out from applying who didn't have enough strength to open the doors.
"Hey is that—"
"—Oh my god, it is!"
"Holy shit! She's back!"
"Oh fuck look!"
Dozen of heads turned in Noche's direction. She was confused until she noticed those gazes weren't landing on her, but on the blind girl next to her.
